Shady always shady in fcps, I think they bank on parents just putting up with errors- even at the school level they believe parents will just let everything slides because schools are big and the county is huge. I’ve even seen schools turn their mistakes into the students fault. |
Yup |
Even funnier(not really) is the kids lost out on more instruction time with all the pointless trainings and meetings for compensatory services. This is not putting staff or students needs first-and one reason why the county can’t staff SPED positions. |
| Maybe the person cutting the checksnis taking a cut for herself. |

So that is four posters just on here who wwre all shorted random and non-sensical amounts.
|
| It took us 8 months and the final payment kept coming in wrong with weird flat numbers |
|
What's so weird about it is there is no complicated accounting required. IEP team
agrees you should be reimbursed $100. Gatehouse is just supposed to check the receipt and send a check for $100. There's no logical explanation for why it is taking so long OR why everyone is getting incorrect amounts. |
| Was there no deadline with the OCR settlement? |
I think there was- that is why there was this rush to get meetings and paperwork done but then FCPS stalled on payments. I am not sure if there was a specific deadline for payments- more of a deadline to meet with parents. FCPS found the loophole and i am sure no one is holding them accountable. |

I found this online.
What was interesting to me was that the amount was so high (I am in two different special ed parents group--my kid is 18 and has cycled through a lot of schools--and no one who was getting financial reimbursement was getting anywhere near this much and one of the groups is parents of very, very impaired dc). Almost always these findings go in favor of the school system. Its really unusual for FCPS to lose like this! I can't overstate how unusual this ruling is. I haven't heard of any other parens being asked to sign a Non Disclosure Agreement-this was really strange to me. My kid has had an IEP since age 3 and is severely disabled. I would say 90% of her teachers have been wonderful people trying to do impossible jobs usually with little support. We have dealt with Gatehouse staff many times on many different issues and they are 100% of the time, unbelievably slow and frankly incompetent. I don't know where they find these people. https://specialeducationaction.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/2024.02.26-VDOE-LOF_Redacted.pdf |
| Its interesting to me that out of our completely random population of parents on here, almost everyone was sent an incorrect, reduced amount AND almost everyone had to submit their receipts multiple times. Assuming everyone is sending things in electronically, that makes no sense. How do electronic submissions get "lost"? Where does it cross over from incompetence to maliciousness? |
So October 2023---> January 2024 was illegally slow response rate by FCPS. But parents on here are just getting reimbursed based on meetings held in spring of 2023? That's crazy. |
"Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity." |

They like to keep money.
Apparently if you have money left in your student’s meals account, even after graduation they don’t automatically refund your card and you can’t just click a button on the site to get reimbursed. I think you have to actually go down to the school in person. They make it hard so you won’t other with that 5 or 15 bucks, and I bet it adds up to thousands of dollars in the aggregate. |
There was a series of deadlines in the original settlement but I believe FCPS only made the deadlines that involved sped teachers busting their butts. It doesn't look like OCR has done much to enforce. |
