The elite universities in the. UK admit based on grades too. I don’t see them killing themselves. |
Cant wait! Sounds like the right move! Admissions based on academic capability and motivation, maybe? I know, crazy. |
The UK has a better safety net so people aren’t playing the rat race to maintain UMC status like they do here. In Asia and India, your only chance of having economic security is higher Ed or rich family. |
+1. Pp doesn’t know what they are talking about. Just how did we get to 60 percent women. Ohhhh Title IX |
Yes! No more legacy or admission based on participation in expensive sports! |
In what ways are Asian countries more fair than the US? And how is rewarding those with the highest test scores fair to those kids who don't have as much time to study for the exams because their family needs them to work? |
Cheating on tests in these countries is rampant, and politically-connected and wealthy families can very easily buy their way into the top universities. I figured these would be examples of the countries offered...add India as another country where the admissions process is a mess. |
Gender will be the next legal issue. Here is one example at Stanford: https://www.forbes.com/sites/kimelsesser/2022/11/30/stanford-university-under-investigation-for-sex-bias-against-men/ |
False. Our tax code punishes the UMC. What tge UK does have that we don’t is the purposeful channeling of middle school and high school students into vocational schools (imagine the squawk here if that should be proposed) so oNly the true scholars are left to apply to either Oxford or Cambridge (you have to pick) and I have firsthand knowledge of Oxford application prerequisite both undergrad and grad. It’s still a meritocracy whereas the US schools have simply lost their way with social engineering |
You mean the same way rich and connected families buy their ways into universities here and people cheat ala university blues? |
People have already mentioned the UK and European countries. |
Are you arguing that the UK doesn’t practice socialism?? |
Yes...that's the point...when people reference these magic, pure countries and their meritocratic admissions, they all have their problems as well. |
I don’t think you know what is going on in India and China. Did you know that the SAT stopped administering the test in China due to rampant cheating it could not control? |
My family is British but you have first hand knowledge of the Oxford’s application process. ![]() |
