Hello
I was diagnosed with the GD at 27 weeks. I started doing ketons test and sugar test. In the morning i found ketons to be "small" and my fasting sugar was 104 (higher than 95 expected). However during the day after the meals I have my sugars in good ranges quite below the tresholds. I will definitely talk to my endo, but wanted to hear some epxerinece form others? how to remove ketons and improve fasting sugars? |
Kotena, I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but do know that everything will be OK.
In my opinion, your sugar levels and ketones aren't bad at all -- you should feel encouraged that you're doing so well. That said, however, I would strongly suggest you see a dietician who will give you a very strict diet of what to eat and what not to eat. That made all the difference for me -- as long as I ketp to the diet, my ketones and blood sugars were within normal ranges. Your insurance may not cover a dietician -- mine didn't. But I just went twice, and it was well worth the money. Good luck to you. |
I was diagnosed with GD at 26 weeks - now I'm at 32 weeks and cruising along. The only times I find I have any ketones in my urine in the mornings is when I don't have a carb/protein snack right before I go to bed. I'm not sure about the high morning sugars, though. My fasting readings in the mornings are always below 90. I'm really being careful about what I eat and eating every 2-3 hours during the day. Best bet is to bring your diet and blood sugar readings charts to your next doctor or nurse appointment - they will know what your results mean. |
I also had GD during my pregnancy. My blood sugar levels were fine during most days, but the ketones tests came in pretty bad every morning after sleeping for more than 8 hours. For me, the way to get both tests right was to get a snack during the night. However, I rarely did that because sleep was more important to me than the ketones.
As far as your morning reading of 104 morning is concerned, it is important to keep in mind that the margin of error of most testing kits is 10 percent or higher. Therefore, one bad reading may not very important. (Of course, this is something you need to discuss with your endocrinologist). |
I had the same issue with my pregnancy. My levels were usually between the 100-105 mark in the morning with the occasional 92 or 95. And throughout the day my levels were actually so good that my Dr thought I didn't truly have GD but just more of an intolerance.
Anyhow he told me to drink a glass (serving) of milk at night just before going to sleep. It made a difference instantly. Apparently there wasn't enough to sustain me through the night. I would try the glass of milk- I used 2%- and see if it works for you. |
Well, this morning my fasting reading was 84, which I was happy to see. But my ketones... I am not sure if I interpret the color right, it is still between trace and small. I will try during the dy and see if I ever get negative just to make sure that the color is actually exists.
As for the days, it seems good so far, even after total carb snacks (like crackers and apples) I still have normal readings. Hope to go like this further |
