I have decided my wardrobe needs an overall in a serious way. I used to to be cute and on trend...however, I have let it slip a little bit and I am determined to get myself back in order. What are you buying this season? Anything you think is a must have? Ideas, links, pictures, and guidance are appreciated! FWIW, I work part-time in a very casual setting and take care of my almost 2 year old. |
| I wish I knew. I work full time and finally have the budget to update my wardrobe but have no idea what to buy. |
| Op here...glad to know that I am not alone! |

I'm living in my Frye boots, leggings, and long shirts.
Also, love all the blousy flowing clothes. I also and in love with sweater dresses, tights, and boots. |
I live in these things too, but they've been pretty ubiquitous for the past 2 years at least. Like OP I am trying to identify what's current for this year (at least, what's current and reasonably affordable and appropriate for a 35-year-old mom of small kids.) The one thing I've definitely noticed is that a higher-waisted flare jean is definitely making a comeback. Of course this presents a problem because my flat Frye riding boots really don't look right with pants that don't fit under them. |

Skinny jeans are out.
Sweater dresses will probably stick around for another 1-2 seasons. You could invest in a few classic pieces that will last a long time - wrap dress, shirt dress, fabulous pair of perfect fitting black pants, etc. |

There are plenty of skinny jeans still around in all the stores - I would not call them out.
This year I'm wearing high-waisted flare jeans, or skinny jeans with a short moto boot. I think leggings/skinny jeans with tall boots look a little tired, but I'll probably wear them sometimes. |
| Bump...I still need help and I know some of you are on trend! |
| I don't really care if the skinny jeans are that out they look good with my riding boots, cowboy boots and flats. Can't say the same for the trouser trend |
| go to a nordstrom personal shopper/stylist. i can't recommend it enough. it's free and you can buy as little or as much as you want, and you tell them your budget. |
|
I second the NOrdstrom stylist. I did this and bought several pieces I never would have even looked at in teh first place and they are now my most favorite items in my closet!!
Have to disagree with PPs on the skinny jeans. Just becuase they are in stores doesn't mean they are in the height of fashion. You can also find elastic waisted polyester grandma pants in most stores. Doesn't make them hot. |
Totally agree. Stop with the skinny jeans. I can assure you they don't look good on you! Definitely the stylist route if you have to work. If you stay home feel free to hang out in the skinny jeans, leggings, jeggins, sweat suits, etc. |
| Does anyone have a particular Nordstrom stylist to recommend? I've always been intersted in giving the personal shopper a try but have been scared off by the notion that I'd wind up spending a ton. Given that they have a wide range of age groups in their clientele (i.e., my frumpy mother-in-law included), I'd want to be sure to find one that is great with young moms as well as grandmas. |
