Can you give me the info if you liked it? Looking to take my family camping soon but don't want to stay in a tent! Md or Va is fine with me

We have, but in a Vermont state park, not around here. We loved it. Our cabin was one room with no running water and minimal electricity (there was one overhead light, and one outlet we could plug into). The furniture included a set of bunkbeds, a futon, and a table with two chairs. For bathroom facilities there was a communal one down the road and pay showers (I think it was 50 cents for about 5 minutes?)
We camp in a tent often, so this was kind of like "one step above"--no need to do the set up ourselves, and the minimal elecricty was helpful. |
| http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclands/campinginfo.asp They also have cabins in VA and WV. |
| We did at a KOA this summer as an alternative to a hotel for our vacation. It was cheaper and we could cook our meals instead of eating out. |

We like the Md. state parks' mini cabins. Four walls and a roof enclosing twin bunk beds (top has a side rail) and a double bed. (Plus enough floor space for a pack n play if you need one.) There are electrical outlets and an overhead light/fan, but no plumbing facilities or kitchen -- you cook in the outdoor fire ring and use the bathhouse for toilets and showers. Front porch big enough for two chairs.
The "real" cabins are also very nice, but much harder to get -- they fill up quickly. |
| In Shenandoah NP there are too kinds-- at Skyland you can rent a cabin that is like a rustic hotel room in terms of amenities. At Lewis Mtn campground there are cabins that are very basic-- IIRC you get a bed, a bathroom, electricity and a firepit. |

We did the KOA campground cabin, and it was no cheaper than what a hotel room would have cost.
Also, it was dusty and there was a problem with stinkbugs and mosquitos. If you want to get into camping, you can do it. If you are an experienced camper, then too. But if you are just looking for something cheaper than a hotel room, then not |
| If you like the idea of a resort style campground - check out Luray's Jelly stone campground. Cabin there was lovely and the children enjoyed the play areas etc etc . Cabins were also far enough from the many RVs to make their presence acceptable ! It wasn't rustic nature loving camping , but worked well out of season with baby and toddlers. ( nb we went at Easter for Egg hunts etc ) Visit Luray Caverns or go hiking .... |
