Our kid will be taking the bus 3 days a week this year from home. We have previously sent him to Academy before care at his school, but my work schedule has changed this year. I want to keep him on a "good" routine - that is, no tv before the bus comes. I'm thinking legos, games, and maybe books. (He's in 2nd grade.)
Just seeing what other parents do for "before school" activities that don't involve tv. Thanks. |
How about going for a walk outside? I think physical activity before classes is wonderful and helps kids focus better for the rest of the day. |
There is so much smart TV that he can do and there is nothing better then tV to
warm up their brains and wake them up... gently. why not? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
If you want an independent activity that doesn't include your assistance, this is a great one - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001BX39MQ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER. My children can be occupied for hours with the stickers to make the mosaic. |
I like the walk idea. Better if you have a dog. |
Mornings are the only time my kids can watch TV on school days. They can only turn it on when they are completely ready, shoes on and backpack by the door.
Usually it's only a few minutes but it has a defined end and helps them get ready quickly. |
We do not own a TV or cable. |
I envy you! We don't have any time for before school activities. Get up, get dressed, eat breakfast, brush teeth: that's about it. |
Sleep is the only before school activity for us. |
Do you realize, OP, that you have essentially started a thread asking how to spend time with your own child? Doesn't that strike you as a little odd? |
We have about an hour and 3/4 in the morning from the time our kids wake up until they have to leave for school. Our son dresses, practices his instrument for 30-40 minutes, eats breakfast, brushes teeth and hair. If all that is done, he is allowed to play a game on one of our phones or on the computer. He usually only gets 10 minutes for this before we leave. He is VERY motivated by those 10 minutes, though, since we don't allow this at any other time of day, so everything gets done pretty smoothly before then! |
I'm sure kids in boarding school know what they are doing before classes ![]() |
Yes! And then we all race around like headless chickens trying to get it together. It is pitiful. ![]() |
