Gift ideas for 6 year old boy with ASD?

Anonymous
I need to purchase a gift for my almost 6 year old nephew and am totally at a loss. He has ASD, is non verbal and had delays in fine motor skills. He loves flags, bubbles and music but he seems to already have a lot of that type of stuff. He also already has a fully stocked train table which gets some use. Our previous gifts seem to have flopped so I'm looking for some new ideas.

Thanks!

My 5.5 year old daughter who has delays in motor skills as well as other problems saw this toy at the house of a friend with special needs (6.5) and we got one for her because she loves it so much. Not much to it -- just placing the cars at the top of the track and pressing down on the lever to make them race but the kids love it.

Does he like videos? My ASD son (6) liked the Baby Bumblebee educational DVDs as well as some of the Teach to Talk disks. To help with fine motor, playdough sets are great for building hand strength. My son also likes to go to places with inflatables, so maybe take him to House of Bounce or Kids N Motion?

My son with ASD really loved marble runs at that age. He played with the Galt Super Marble Run a lot.

We have a friend with an autistic 7 yo ds and he loves playing with our magnatiles when he comes over. They are expensive but worth it. We have the translucent ones and kids build little houses for matchbox cars, toy animals, playgrounds etc.

From our experience at the time--

Gears gears gears -- build it and spin!

Pop up book of the solar system (a preferred topic)

Marble runs

Magnetix (not sure if I spelled that right)

Get a bilibo. They are awesome for autistic kids, especially if they love to spin. Here is a video of my autistic 6YO on his bilibo.

Would a sit and spin be a good idea? My Aperger's nephew loved his around that age.
