If this is the worst dilemma I face while moving, I'll consider myself very lucky, but this is pretty annoying.
My son's room. I want it to be exactly like it is at home, which is adorable. I love his curtains. The sizes and number of windows match up at the new house so I thought I'd just bring the rods and drapes right over and install them tonight before we move Saturday. I just realized that of the two windows, one is a normal distance from the left wall, but the right is butted up all the way over to the right wall. The trim touches the wall. How am I supposed to hang curtains like this? Is the only solution no drapes at all? Because just one set of curtains on the left would look silly. Should I just install the rod butting up to the right wall, leaving off the finial? |
Are you selling the old house? In that case, the drapes and rods may belong to the buyer. Window treatments are usually part of the sale. Check first before you take them with you.
If there's some reason the treatments are not part of the sale, just look for new rods with flat ends so they'll sit flush against the wall. We had this issue with our house and found several options online and at Bed, Bath and Beyond. |
We had the exact same issue.
I just went ahead and covered the entire wall with a gorgeous curtain. It was a small wall so it didn'tlook that bad. |
My sons room is the same way. I briefly had a curtain up there - put the rod above the trim and made sure to pick one with a very small finial and pulled the curtain over the finial so it wouldn't look uneven. Eventually - because I didn't install an anchor for the bolt, it came down. Now it's just a roman shade mounted inside the window frame. I dont think he cares nearly as much as I do but you can bet next time I buy a house it is something I will be checking! |
you can do a cafe style curtain, with a tension rod (think like a shower curtain rod) set just inside the window frame, or simple hook brackets and small rod screwed into the frame.
|
You can also get creative and hang both curtains from the ceiling (Did this in my old Apt that had cinderblock walls and regular ceiling). Like so:

We hang one side of the rod with a bracket on the same wall as the window (as you would noramally do) and then on the side of the window up against the side wall I use a screw into the side wall and just hang the rod (without the finnial) on the screw. Cover with curtain and you can't tell. I have this on 3 windows of our old row house where windows go right up to the edge of the wall. |
