My info may be out of date, but I don't think the place has changed that much. Definitely a very alternative school. They do block learning, so you basically take one class at a time and multiple academic skills are supposed to be folded into that class. They have a lot of detailed info about their course offerings on their website. I think this is a great approach for students who really like to immerse themselves in a single topic, not so good for those who get bored easily. It's great if you get a good instructor and a good group of students, and deadly if you do not.
Students tend to be a little older than your average liberal arts college and a little poorer. A significant percentage of students really pride themselves on their alternative lifestyles-some dirt, some drugs, lots of bands, very lefty. I think this could be a good choice for a smart, self-motivated kid who hasn't quite fit in during high school or who has underachieved. Personally, If the student in question has problems with drugs or alcohol or a tendency to be emotionally unstable, I would really run in the other direction. I think Evergreen would provide too many opportunities to indulge.
