Food, Cooking, and Restaurants
For the second time I bought some from Whole foods, kept it in the fridge for about 3 days before cooking with it, and was almost knocked out by the smell. I have kept other WF sausage for longer than that (4-5 days) without it going bad, because they make it fresh in the store every day, so I'm wondering if this is a strange coincidence that it went bad on me 2x or if that's just the way andouille smells.
No, you shouldn't be knocked over by the smell. In my opinion, rresh sausage from Whole Foods (or any fresh sausage) shouldn't be eaten after 3 days. It doesn't have the preservatives of prepackaged sausage.
We twice had WF sausage go bad after one day in the fridge. Now we plan to cook it same day, otherwise we won't buy it.
Andouille should have a spicy aroma. If it smells off then it probably is.
Not appalling- just strong and spicy. You might not like the spices or it might have gone bad. WF meat seems to go bad very quickly. I have had problems with their seafood as well.
No. I buy it every week from Eastern Market and it never smells. If it does - take it back or toss it. Should be strong and spicy like the pp says.
