Fresh Fruit Treat to share with day care class?

Anonymous
I'd like to bring in a treat for a special occasion in DS day care class (kids are 18mos - 2 years). I'd like to do something with fresh fruit b/c DS loves fruit, it's healthy, and I don't have to worry about allergens. Fruit kabobs are out b/c the kids are too young for the skewer. I was thinking about a fruit mosiac (http://weekofmenus.blogspot.com/2009/05/school-birthday-treats-its-okay-to-rock.html), but would prefer an individual little treat to make it easier on the teachers. Any ideas for this young toddler group?

Just get some tiny cups and put fresh fruit in it. strawberries cut up or pieces of watermelon or cantaloupe. 5 oz cup. You can get mango too.

I would double check on the allergies with the teachers. My kids and I are both allergic to raw apples, melons and most pitted fruits. Oral allergy syndrome. Quite common in people allergic to tree pollen. A lot of kids react to citrus too.

OP here-- I do know there are no fruit allergies in the class. There are only 6 kids.

a cup of strawberries with non-dairy whipped cream on top if the kids want it.

You could still do the fruit kabobs. I always use the rolled paper lollipop sticks sold in the cake decorating section at the craft stores. It is a little harder to get the fruit onto the stick because there is no pointed end but at least they don't turn into weapons

Good for this age group...not sure about the grade schhol crowd. My DDs going into HS and she and her friends still define one of their classmates as the "kid who bought fruit for his bday" back in 1 st grade! Good idea for age group you are targeting though.
