DC Council votes to raise taxes on the “rich”

Anonymous
Good grief. Buildings up and down Wisconsin Avenue were looted for a night or two in the early days of the protest. And it extended farther into upper NW than one would have thought--e.g., Rodmans was broken into so booze could be stolen.

Those weren't "political protests"---that was people stealing $h*t."

Now, to DC's credit---that was tamped down pretty quickly, and the thievery and mayhem could have been much worse as it was in other places.

Hard to imagine that DC has nothing with any of the schools right outside.

You don’t even have to imagine it because it’s true.

College education is not a priority for DC Mayor & Council. Graffiti on a major downtown street is. I am sure that will have as much of a positive impact on DC kids as a college education.

You are all showing off your ignorance. Students who graduate from a DC high school - any school, public or private - qualify for the DC Tuition Assistance Grant (TAG), which provides $10,000 towards tuition at any public college in the country. This is a great deal for DC students and families.

This comment is two months old but it is so dumb I still want to laugh at it.

NP but I am not sure that I understand the joke? Someone asked a question and all of the responses seem to be correct?

- DC has no reciprocity for in-state tuition
- Bowser does not prioritize higher education and the DC government budgets a substantially lower percentage of its budget to higher education than any state
- The Federal government provides a benefit to DC residents for a $10k grant towards tuition at a state university anywhere in the county.

What am I missing here that is dumb?

I assume PP is a socialist who thinks college should be free so the fact that they "only" get $10k for free is a joke to them.

If that’s the case, I still don’t get the complaint? Shouldn’t they be making their argument to city officials? DC could provide free college to all residents by actually funding a university that is accredited to award bachelors degrees and making it free or providing a grant to all DC HS graduates to pay full out of state costs somewhere else. Personally, I don’t see why kids in DC should get this unique Federal benefit when the city has decided to not prioritize higher education.
