To all managers, coaches, and team contacts of the Boys Premier Cup: I just received word from the park managers that all fields will be closed tomorrow so all games will be cancelled. This means that we understand that the u18's and u19's will not want to travel for just one game on Sunday so we are not planning on having games in those two divisions at this time. For any teams that have already arrived in the area, please contact your age group coordinator, Sandor Slager, and we will see what we can do for those individual teams. For all other age groups, we will make a final decision regarding the weekend by 12:00 noon tomorrow and send out an updated notice. Please note that the revised schedule for Saturday is currently on-line and I am working on revising Sunday's schedule hopefully by this evening. I am in the process of moving as many games to turf fields as possible. For the u16's and u17's you will have another game on Sunday besides the current game listed on Saturday. MoCo Sports has sent a message to all hotels about the Friday cancellation and asking that they be as lenient as possible in allowing the u18 and u19 teams who have not arrived to cancel their reservations. I know everyone is disappointed, as I am after spending the last six months preparing for this event, but the weather is out of my control. This is the first time in 15 years that we have had these cancellations. I am still committed to try and complete the tournament for the u17's and younger age groups and will do everything possible to make this happen. Thanks for your understanding and patience. |
He/she isn’t bitter to point out the frivolity of all of this. Kids don’t need to travel and ‘pay to play’ for years and years of their childhood for the US to end with a good women’s national team. Some of the world doesn’t even allow their females to play sports and other countries barely support the women’s teams (soccer is a big macho macho thing in many countries - they want the girls playing volleyball instead). The kids could stuck to home and play a good game until their later teens and nothing would change except you’d have fewer spoiled kids and less money wasted on all of this. |
Doesn’t it look bad that they cancelled the girls games under similar conditions but they are managing to play the boys games?
Brad?? |
Oh stop it. They realize they screwed up last week, and have done everything in their power to make it better for this weekend. Take your agenda somewhere else. |
Completely agree, and I had been one of the biggest complainers about last weekend. Brad and his team so far have done everything right for the boys' weekend. They deserve an immense amount of credit for the boys' tourney, as well as a drink or two after this weekend is over. |
The point is ... it is the way it is, and to pontificate and be bitter about how things could be is a waste of energy. The reality is that if you have a youth player today you will have to embrace the system as is unless you want to take on training your little Messi yourself. It is not great but it is our system, and until it is changed from the top down, we all have to deal with it. |
And the girls?? |
I think everything that needed to be said about the girl’s tourney has been said over several pages now. Remove the foreign body from your rectal cavity. |

Nope. These are pampered parents complaining. Not kids. Not coaches who actually doing the training. It's the parents. Unfortunately since they hold the purse strings they have more say than the people who actually know the game of soccer. |
Looks like everyone from U16 below was rescheduled to turf fields.
Gotta head to Alexandria, but at least we're playing. |
Travel parents are accustomed to traveling anyhow so I’m sure no one minds traveling to VA (or other surroundings areas) for their kids to play on decent fields/turf. I hope BSC and other clubs that runs tournaments learns from this experience. |
Seriously. If you traveled from out-of-state, then Alexandria may be just as close to your hotel as SoccerPlex, Poolesville or the prior tourney locations, and it could even be closer. If you are local, Alexandria again may be a closer location depending on where you live. I agree that these are the types of fields future Premier Cup tournaments should be using. BSC did a great job lining these fields up for the boys weekend, and here's hoping that they use these same (or similar) fields in future years. |

Plus, the VA field locations being used are closer to civilization (i.e. places to eat not completely overrun with soccer families where you can use an actual bathroom in between games) than Muldoon's, Sumerhill, or Polo Grounds. I will gladly drive a bit farther to the turf fields in exchange for better fields and the availability of restaurants and stores. I hate that aspect of the usual BSC fields even more than the terrible condition of the fields. Kudos to the organizers for getting this done. |
U16 and U17 were just cancelled. Everything younger is a go. |
