Capital made so many mistakes this year.

Oh look, the parents of girls who didn’t make the team or didn’t make blue are back.

Nope. I’ve heard this from established capital parents and people with kids too young for capital.

Because a number of Stars Blue players were put on Orange for the first time???

Assuming that the bolded is true: (1) Established Capital parents did not and could not attend the tryouts; (2) People with children too young for Capital did not and could not attend the tryouts; (3) You did not and could not attend the tryouts;(4) I did not and could not attend the tryouts; and (5) Parents of prospective players did not and could not attend the tryouts. The only people allowed to attend the tryouts were the prospective players and the evaluators. Therefore, no one in categories 1-5 is in any position to judge the outcome since they could not possibly know every prospective player who tried out, let alone her abilities as an athlete and lacrosse player.

I suspect some people are reaching conclusions based on what team or club girls played for previously or what school she attends. While the former may be one indication of a girl’s ability, it is hardly a reliable method of determining who should make Capital, let alone the Orange or Blue team. The latter is irrelevant.

Capital changed their tryout and team formation policy last year to “implement measures to ensure that all players are evaluated upon their individual merits”
(http://www.capitallacrosseclub.com/2017/07/19/2017-2018-tryout-information/). Capital revised it slightly before tryouts this year (http://www.capitallacrosseclub.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/348/2018/08/CLC-Tryout-and-Team-Formation-Policy-8.14.2018.pdf) and now all of a sudden this year they are "making so many mistakes?" Curious.

1st - it isn't just this year. 2nd - the lacrosse world is small- same tournaments, spring league, clinics/camps, and same extra events. Everyone has seen everyone else play. Plus these girls had two days of try outs and several practices by now. The abilities and talent of the girls are obvious and high school aged girls talk. So do coaches who have worked with the girls for years. Its very clear to everyone that girls who should never have made Capital are on these teams and some are on the blue team. Plus the fact that several players on the orange team have left to go to better clubs than Capital speaks for itself. But no need to believe anyone posting here - just look for results these teams have in the Fall tournaments. That will make it clear.

I'm not a Capital parent, but do have daughters that play lacrosse. A comment like this seems very subjective. I'm curious why you feel Capital made mistakes. Is it because the best players available were not selected over players who may have been better fits at specific positions? Capital seems to state in the tryout policy another poster linked that they are trying to put together the best team. Not necessarily a team with all the perceived best players regardless of position. This is an extreme, but just as an example, the 11 best field players trying out may all play attack. Would this really translate into the best team? Probably not.

Also, one should point out there are many good players across NoVa. For this area it may be fair to say the best VA programs have traditionally been rooted in the McLean/Vienna/Alexandria areas, but as girls lacrosse has grown the sport has moved to outlying areas. More and more talented players are cropping up across Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William counties that are expressing interests in playing for the best club teams. Many have not even explored playing for the top programs until 7th/8th/9th grade, so it may not always be the case girls will know who these players are. With the growing number of players and improving talent pool in other areas it seems inevitable the make-up of Capital Lacrosse and other top club teams may take on a different look from years past.

And even more have quit the club.

Sure these opinions are subjective but based on obsevatiions made by people who know the talent pool. There aren’t that many girls who play at the best level. Everyone has seen everyone else play. The selections and decisions made this year were bad. Many kids were treated terribly. The club is going to have to drop these teams to lower brackets if they want to have any success.

For your own sake, and especially for your daughter's, you need to move on. Panthera is going to have an interesting season with a lot of great opportunities and may even be more fun than Capital. Imagine, she may actually have fun playing now that the pressure is off!

My kid is not on Panthera but thanks for playing.

There were a couple mistakes with the selection process for Capital Blue however overall a good group of players were selected for the team.

Who cares about Capital!! You guys think you are so much better than anyone else. It is program run by a bunch of parents. That is why there always so much drama with the club. If a college coach looked at this thread, I can tell you they would run fast and hard away from recruiting from there. Bigger world out there!
Anonymous
Then why do you respond to this thread if you don’t care? I suspect there is drama in every sports club, Not only in the Lacrosse world, nothing new here!
Anonymous
Even Baltimore lax people know who the best players are down in DC (been playing them for years) and the best freshman talent is not playing for Capital.
Anonymous
Way too much effort into this thread if Capital has no talent. Your insults have no affect on anyone except for you. I will take the high road and will not comment on your hostile statement.

Yeah, sour grapes from me but case in point:
5 girls from Stars 2022 Blue left for Maryland to play on M&D Black, Skywalkers Blue and MC Elite. Replaced on Capital Blue by 6 girls from a team that played lower competition and won almost 0 games over the past 2 years. Have seen all of these girls play and no comparison between the 2 groups in any phase of the game. Evaluators had to be considering other factors than play on the field, such as, previous club and high school during the entire process.

Not a single player from 2022 Stars Blue came to M&D Black. Skywalkers Blue and MC Elite yes, but not M&D

You are wrong. You just aren't up to date.

If you’re a Capital parent you’ve signed a code of conduct agreement not to post this kind of stuff on social media, for good reason. All girls need a positive environment to play well as a team and this will get back to them. Regardless, I hope your daughter has lots of fun and a great year of lacrosse ahead.

No one has been replaced on Capital Blue; no one has left Capital Blue.
