Well that isnt true. Of the 14, 4 FVU, 1 SYC GA, 1 Loudoun GA, 1 Arlington ECNL. About 5 are repeaters that are either doing RL playing up or repeating. So about half is going ECNL or GA. |
This is true - there are 5 coming from NVA, 4 from Valor, a couple 2013 from BRYC and also a couple 2013 VYS. There were some 2015 SYC players there for SC but not sure if they are on the roster for the fall. A lot of guest players went to SC that won't even be on the roster for fall. Not a lot of the actual roster could make it to the tournament from what I hear. Why make a trip all the way down to SC if no intention to play on the team next year? For the experience |
| No one is driving down to SC for the experience. Either they are on the team for next year or were given the opportunity to go as part of a tryout for next year. |
I agree. Or maybe they are hoping to get an offer to be on the team after not receiving one at official tryouts. But that would make one think they are in desperate need of kids. |
Yes, they would be desperate for more kids to fill their roster, but those kids should be cautious. If they are a late addition they will be guaranteed little to no playing time. |
| As an outsider, I’d like to see a strong ecnl team in the Fairfax area. The age change might be just what fvu needs. |
This outsider agrees as well. Stronger ECNL teams benefit the DMV area. On the boys side, most top players interested in ECNL will choose to play for Arlington or VDA if they have that option. FVU should be able to keep more Fairfax-area players if FVU teams become more competitive (a chicken and egg problem). It's a relatively new club that needs time to grow. |
| People act like you need a passport to cross into another county from Fairfax County. Lol. Yes Fx county is big but it’s really not that far of a drive to Arlington or VDA. No one is staying with FVU just cause it’s Fairfax (plus they don’t have their own fields). VDA also got lucky with the 66 toll lanes to make it easier to travel to them on a nightly basis - before parents wouldn’t sit in an hour of traffic out of Fairfax County to Long Park. Now the drive can be as quick as 25–35 minutes depending on where you are in Fx county. Being the only club in the county really isn’t that much of an advantage for FVU (it also takes 45 minutes to drive from one side of Fairfax County to the other). |
This is true. You can sit in 25-35 min of traffic driving through Fairfax County on smaller roads, or you can get on a highway and drive much further in the same amount of time. Aren't FVU fields at places like Robinson and Woodson? Traffic around the Fairfax City area is so bad. There is no way around it, you just have to drive through it. If you live on the eastern or southern end of the county, you can get to Arlington, Alexandria, or SYC. If you live on the northern end, you can go out to Loudoun/NVA. If you live on the western end, then Loudoun/NVA or VDA. |
| I really wish Loudoun had at least one ECNL club. Instead, we’ve got a bunch of GA and smaller clubs, and next year right when my kid needs ECNL almost every option will mean driving over an hour each way. It’s frustrating that families here still don’t have a strong local ECNL option. |

You guys are trying really hard to convince yourselves that driving to Long Park and Howison isn’t that bad. And the whole “they don’t even have their own fields” is getting tiresome. Does Arlington own Long Bridge?
Ffx county has plenty of fields that Union accesses. Marshall, Oakmont and Quantum are accessible for most including those from MD. Robinson, Oakton, Woodson are worse than Long Park? Tell me another one. |
You mean half a field. For half the practice for full price. Badum spssssshhhh Keep telling yourself it will be ok and get better. Looks at the boys records. |
| The size of the patch of grass you practice on commentary may be the stupidest argument on here. If you can't operate in tight space and manipulate the ball to where you want, you are not a footballer. Not advocating for less space just pointing out that its truly irrelevent to development. |
Its fine if a coach chooses to run a drill in a small space, but he should be assigned enough space to practice by the clubs. Clubs use this lie about small space making better players to justify 4-5 teams per field. |
Yeah, the half-field practice setup and the 2013/2012 girls still produced the #1 team in the Mid-Atlantic. Just look at the girls’s record. You can have the most beautiful, perfect field like Revolution, and that still does not guarantee results. So enough with all the excuses and nonsense already. It is not about the field. It is about the training, the players, and the results. |
