If you’re not sure, just don’t do ED. You can worry about it after you get in.

Also, it’s strange that people bash the party scene at UVA, because that’s pretty much the scene at most state schools and some private universities, not something exclusive to UVA.

I mean, "we call ourselves Wahoos because that's a fish that drinks twice its weight every day" was a thing UVA students said even 30 years ago. They've been proud of their party culture for a while now, and far more than any other school my kids toured, or that I toured when I was looking at schools back in the day. I don't believe all students at UVA are into the party scene, but I also think it's disingenuous to deny that it's a part of the UVA brand that a lot of students lean into.

Much smarter to go to a good school, even if it's not the "top fit" and graduate debt free (or minimal debt) than spend the next 10 years paying back massive debt. That is literally what most kids attending college do---they attend where they can afford, which is often in-state at the best option their state offers and they can gain admission to

But why can’t students look at options that cost about the same as UVA if they really just don’t like UVA?

My friend’s daughter just wanted to get out of VA and applied to state flagships and similar size schools elsewhere and the cost after merit was very similar.

I think in the end, this kid doesn't like UVA. Then kid doesn't need to apply there. Maybe W&M or Tech would be better if it HAS to be an in-state school.

I know plenty of kids who went to Pitt or OH State or UMass or the like with merit when they didn't like their VA choices/needed out, and they were perfectly happy with their choices.

W&M is definitely a better fit if your child is one of the DMV “introvert” types. You know what I mean.

Yep, my kid - who didn't go to UVA but has classmates who did - said "UVA is a school for smart kids who like to party"

I attended a different ACC school and absolutely heard this.

I also personally witnessed in your stadium a group pretending to be a marching band running and stumbling around the field like drunken fools. The scuttlebutt was that drinking actually got the marching band disbanded due to excessive alcohol consumption.

I would love to know the actual story there. I don’t remember which year of school this was, but it would have been between 94 to 97.

Appears to be false scuttlebutt. I googled it. Also googled for the years in question. The band was never disbanded for alcohol consumption
