Jobs and Careers
Same!! This is a seriously sweet gig. I have time to make dinner, help with homework, my house is spotless… I never want to hear another sahm complain. |
? I mean, if you want, you can just quit your job and have the "seriously sweet gig" too. Absolutely nothing stopping you. |
As noted earlier, we work for money. |
Most SAHMs and their spouses make great financial sacrifices to be able to do that. You could too, you just don't want to. |
I assume their spouses make more than mine does as a teacher. We made "great financial sacrifices" ( ) to have two equal parents with reasonable hours in flexible jobs. (I assume you mean stuff like only one used car, small townhome in a non-central area, not going on big vacations, etc - already doing that. Such greaaaat sacrifices. So please stop with the superiority.)

Sounds like a "seriously sweet gig" to me. Flexible jobs AND two incomes! I don't hear you complain again. You could sell your car. Get a smaller townhome even further out. NEVER go on vacations, etc. You still have A LOT while still having a seriously sweet gig of both parents with flexible jobs. So please stop with the superiority. |
I'm not the PP who said I wanted to be a SAHM. I did think my gig was sweet. Except I'm not working or getting paid anymore. THAT is my problem, along with the sense of superiority in the assumption we're just overspending. To be clear, you think we can live far out (i.e. not in an area with public transit to grocery stores or doctor's offices) with NO car to save money? And we should downsize from a 2 bedroom townhome with 2 kids, giving up a sub-3% interest rate, to buy a smaller space at higher cost? And this would enable us to support a family of 4 on any income? I think we've been quite financially disciplined, but that isn't always enough to support a family on one income. Please show me the math on $60k, since as a fed I'm very aware I could lose my job any day. Don't forget to include health insurance premiums! |
| PS. I'm going on vacation this weekend. We're camping at a state park and bringing our own groceries. Oh th3 extravagance! |
Ditto. With mine in MS and HS, I have the entire day to focus on house stuff, making dinner, scheduling and/or taking them to drs appts, driving them around to activities, while also taking care of myself. It really is nice and it’s insane we’re expected to manage all of that and hold down 40hrs a week at the office full time. |
| Im betting on the govt opening by Thanksgiving |
I can see myself getting very bored and unhappy if this were my whole life. |
Hard to say, apparently those Epstein files are so damning that there is no end in sight. |
I’m just a week and a half couple days in and I don’t know what to do with myself. I’ve cleaned out: the attic, the playroom, the coat closet, vanities in 3 bathrooms, a medicine cabinet, the linen closet, my dresser, one child’s summer to winter clothes. I did a mid day Costco run, have cooked dinner nightly, am picking my kids up from school instead of them metroing, the laundry for the week is done. I’ve gone to the gym every day. I guess I have left: clean out my closet and the sports equipment, reline the kitchen cabinets and then? I also took both cars for oil changes/service. Maybe I’ll go visit my parents if this continues. |
I heard the same thing. |
Yep. Most Feds chose lower paying jobs with flexibility so both could be home with their kids. That being said- we’re dual furloughed. |
