Learned Dad voted for Trump

I think it’s important to remember that over 50% of the United States voted for Trump. Which means that you’re in the minority. That might mean that you are the one being brainwashed affected by the environment, more so than him. I don’t think that is a reason to cut him off.

Maybe if the Progressives didn't make white males the evil of all evil, they wouldn't be pushing young men away in droves.

But Democrats really take it deeply personally. And consistently, stubbornly refuse to even begin to try to understand why people voted for Trump despite the periodic woe is me cries on here.

To OP, my advice is get over it. Other people have their right to their views. And guess what, it doesn't mean they're wrong. And elections do have consequences. They always do. You voted for politicians that had consequences for other people but you didn't care, did you? In short, get over it.

Could it be because there is nothing to get upset about. Biden/Harris did not impede any of their rights, or screw up the economy which cost them job losses. What was there to get upset about. Oh yeah, the man in drag.

Trumo received 49.8 and Harris 48.3 of the eligible voters. Most did not vote.

I have tried to educate my dad using some sources that could be viewed as neutral, such as the Jan. 6 House report, but he is stubborn and seems entrenched. I won't cut off contact with him, but have lost respect for him. It's heartbreaking. If anyone has constructive advice, I am still all ears.

Have you told him how you feel OP?

The real reason white men voted for Trump is they don't want to share. For them, it is a zero sum game. When women and minoriries are given opportunities that they were prevented it takes away from white men. They want to go back to the past where they had zero competition and only they were on top in everything.

Only 65% of eligible voters turned out to vote in the last election, so that’s hardly 50% of Americans who were in favor of Trump then.

And now? His overall approval rating is under half, except for diehard partisans.

He didn’t even receive the majority of votes.

Yes he did. Trump won the popular vote in 2024, but not in 2016

He did not get 50%. He got a plurality in 2024.
If not for the Electoral College he would never have been President in 2016 and would have lost interest in politics.

I will still help them when they need it (medical issues, etc) but I won't choose to spend time with them outside of that. I stopped inviting them to things my kids are involved in.

Happens all the time. My in-laws who were suffering from dementia voted for Biden. Didn't know who or where they were, but their son took over their ballots. It was a blue state, so made no difference anyway. Works both ways.

You must work at liberty uni or similar. This is simply not representative of educated young people. I work in higher ed and no males or females support trump. If they did once, they don’t now.

Yes, I wonder why a student in higher ed might want to hide their political views at college. SMH, you are in such a bubble.

Just remember, the law of physics is for every action there’s an equal and opposite reaction. Ask yourself how did we get back in the same situation with Trump? The last four years was no picnic either.

I feel like the MAGA folks are living in a different county than I am. The president gets a “gift” of a jet from Qatar, then announces Qatar is building a base on U.S. soil. US citizens are being beaten and imprisoned for exercising their right to peaceful protest. The administration ignores court orders and any laws with which they don’t agree. The president demands the AG prosecute his enemies, and fires any attorneys who won’t follow his orders, even if they’re unlawful. J6 rioters are pardoned. Grocery store prices are increasing and the government issues a report that the policy of deporting immigrants will put be even more pressure on prices. People are snatched off the streets by masked men, placed in unmarked vehicles and disappeared into prisons in other countries. Sure Biden’s presidency wasn’t perfect, but how can it even begin to compete with the Trumps’s attempt to burn the constitution?

Call it an equal but opposite reaction to the insanity and lawlessness of the Biden Administration. Just saying.

Maybe try to listen to independent media, tons of examples. Late Friday, I don't have time to type it out for the brainwashed NoVa progressives. Enjoy your protests tomorrow. I'm sure it will make a difference.
