If they are gaming the system is it because they are looking to attract more kids with different backgrounds to apply ?
Is it more name recognition?

They are not "gaming the system". These are posts from people who have looked at a few statistics and decided they know something everyone else is too dumb to realize and they want to show you how special they are.

Yet many of them do not have a definition for "gaming the system". Many of them claim that UChi does this to improve their ranking and don't know that these numbers are not included in the rankings and haven't been for years. They haven't done an iota of reading about the thing they are claiming. It's way past shameful and on to silly.

You people should either do your homework or stop posting on a topic you know nearly nothing about. You might misinform someone in a way that matters. Don't you care about that?

Oh do go on. You are amusing at this point.

Yes, I was talking about you. Exactly you. You are ignorant of the facts and apparently have no interest in changing that. I am glad you find that amusing. It would pain me to learn that about myself.

Man. You are so hysterically defensive. It’s funny.

This isn’t a hard math problem, my friend. What Chicago does and how the rankings are calculated are easy to figure out. You can see what the school does. I know this bothers you deeply which is why you’re having a total meltdown, but that doesn’t change the underlying mathematics.

Keep fuming.

U Chicago is hard. My kids are there, and sometimes I really wish they had chosen another school because it is very difficult and very unforgiving. You can fail classes even if you work incredibly hard, because you just don't get the math or have a bad day on the final. Plus it is nerve wracking to get a 40/100 on the final, think you failed (and in fact you did based on absolute score) then have it curved to an A-.
I do think the mail is intended to really entice the intellectual life of the mind kids, because some mail was really weird and intellectually abstract but also funny. I think Chicago is trying to find their people... and for the record I think my kids were some of those people, but it's no joke there.
I don't understand why people call the school second rate or think its gaming the system somehow - I actually think they are going really broad with marketing to find the kids who can succeed in what is essentially a rigorous graduate school that in the past 100 years added undergraduate programs an expects the undergrads to perform like grad students.

One more point - maybe the joke is on the U Chicago kids, who have to work 10x as much for much less vestigial prestige and lower pipeline to jobs.... but on the bright side, they will leave having achieved an incredible education.

I'm not fuming. I am continuing to be amazed on how you refuse to accept certain basic facts.

Such as the fact that acceptance rate and yield are not used in USN ranking calculations.

Any university that needs to bombard kids with two flyers and half a dozen emails per week is 2nd tier.

No 1st tier university prostitutes itself like U Chicago.

Aren't the top universities boycotting their information to USNWR? Does that mean this info lacks full context??

Most schools seem to do this. DS had several Pre RD date WL offers.

You must be really dumb!

I was smart enough never to use the term "prostitute" in any appellate brief, and know that using it on a random internet message board isn't any more effective or cogent.

And here I thought that the irrational, unbridled hate towards Northeastern was peak DCUrbanMom. Then UChicago comes swooping in for the win!

UVA says hi.

Haha

The Northeastern and UVA folks eventually stopped feeding the troll. It takes a few days. He or she will sockpuppet and try to get other people irritated enough to respond. But after a little time they will move on and probably start a new thread.
