Where to shop for furniture, fabric and accessories?

We're moving to McLean this coming weekend and I have a house that needs help. I'm a big DIYer when it comes to decorating. I read magazine, blogs, etc., find looks I like and then try to replicate them. I buy fabric and either make my own drapes or have a seamstress sew them for me. I shop all over where I live now, but I have no idea where to begin in NoVa. Some of my favorite haunts in NC are... Nice furniture consignment stores, discount fabric stores, home furnishing "malls" (stores with multiple booths by individual vendors, but managed by the store owner), Interior decorator/designer stores. My style is more traditional/transitional if that helps.

Please share your suggestions!

And if anyone has the 411 on a reasonable seamstress or furniture upholsterer I'd love the referral.

For fabric, I suggest trying G Street Fabrics. I've only been to the Rockville branch (and it was huge) but they do have stores in VA.

You were probably spoiled by the number and diversity of furniture stores in NC. I suggest maybe starting out with a trip to Belfort furnitures in VA.

Thanks for the suggestions!

For furniture, the further out you drive, the less expensive it will be. Good antiques can be found in the country.

If you shop in smaller markets, Annapolis or Fredericksburg, you can get better deals at nice independent decorating stores.

No real deals in Annapolis. It is just as high priced as DC. Ugh, Unless you know of a hidden gem that I haven't seen. Do share!

If you are willing to do some country driving, I'd check out Greenfront in Farmville, VA.

For fabric, you should drive up 270 to the warehouse in Thurmont, MD.

There's also a Calico Corners in Arlington right near the Mclean/Arlington border. I also agree with G Street Fabrics (there's one at 7 corners) and sometimes Joanne's has some decent finds.
Furniture is tough ... we typically end up at Belfort Furniture which carries multiple brands at different price points. Urban Retreat has some good finds. Upscale Resale was the best place to go picking but they've closed and yet to reopen. Happy shopping!
