Or just let her sleep and feed when she wakes? |
Never wake a sleeping baby. |
No. Not all kids have trouble with their ears during take off and descent. If she wakes crying and you suspect her ears are hurting then definitely offer a feed or paci to help equalize air pressure in the ears. |
I agree. I flew many times when both my kids were infants and I never woke them if they slept through take-off or landing. safe travels. |
Here's what I've learned: if you bought the extra seat and brought the car seat on board, you are required to have the baby strapped into the car seat during takeoff/landing. If you breastfeed, this poses a problem b/c sucking needs to occur during takeoff and DEFINITELY during landing. Chances are, flight attendants will be in their seats so you can "sneak" baby into your lap to nurse during takeoff but during landing, they seem to be walking around until the last minute. Some will look the other way, some won't, so BE PREPARED with bottles, pacifiers, clean finger, whatever works for your baby.
Landing is the part you really need to be concerned about. Offer something to suck on but I wouldn't *wake* the baby so much as shove something in/near her mouth to make available when she needs it. |
Just be prepared to feed right away if the baby wakes up after take off. I flew with a 10 week old and didn't wake her to feed during take off. She woke up screaming like I had never heard her scream her before and I was wishing I had woken her to eat during take-off. Just sense the situation, but if you let the baby sleep, be prepared for quick action when they wake up. |
If your child is asleep on a plane, do not wake him or her, do not get up to pee, do not order a drink, do not talk to anyone, and don't move. |
Mine was fine without sucking at takeoff/landing (even awake). Doesn't hurt to have a bottle or pacifier or snacks (depending on the age) available in case yours does have trouble. We always had DC in a car seat, so no nursing during takeoff and landing. |
haha yes, agree! |
No. Only reason they need to feed is the chance that their ears might not pop on their own easily. If that's the case, the baby will wake, and you will know and can start then. My son was fine without... |
could you pop a paci in there without waking him/her up? he/she might suck automatically without waking. |
My baby fell fast asleep for descent. I was trying to get her to take a bottle or paci and had no luck. She was fine and showed no symptoms of ear pain. |
i second this. my baby has fallen asleep on the jetway during takeoff and no probs with her ears. but if she were to wake, i'd act fast to put my boob in her mouth. flight attendants be darned. |
