We want to sell our home but don't want to pay 3% to use an agent. We will plan on paying a buyer's agent's commission. Has anyone else done this? Any tips you can share? Thanks!

Yes. Use For Sale by Owner.com. For about $700 (5 years ago), we got listed on their site, signs, and most importantly, an MLS listing.
Whatever you do or whatever service you use, get that MLS listing because it makes all the difference in the traffic that comes to your home. |
Thanks PP. Anyone else done it recently? I'm wondering if it's more difficult given the housing market now, or if it won't make a difference as long as we pay the buyer's agent commission.
I've bought twice and sold once FSBO. It was very easy. We had a standard contract and the closing agent pretty much directed me through everything. Each time I was approached to sell though. I never listed the property. I've heard that you can pay to list on MLS though for a flat fee.
I might add that if you are selling a condo there could be certain disclosures you need to meet.
This sounds easy, and with a 3% saving on the cost of a house, it makes me wonder why anyone uses an agent. Not the OP, but am going to keep this in mind when we go to sell. I always thought the point of the agent was to get them to post on MLS. I had no idea you could get an MLS posting through a service. Good to know.
