if your child attends one of these schools, i'm curious about the age range/difference and whether kids are really being held back or red-shirted as much as people say.

As a parent of one of the schools, yes, some parents have chosen to hold their children back. Age ranges can be as much as 18-19 months in a class.

I'm a Beauvoir mom, and in my child's class last year, I think the total age range differential was 14 months. Actually, though, one child was literally held back so you kind of can't count that. Anyway, I didn't find it near the 2 year range at all.

Mostly, you will be getting a class where, for third grade for example, a handful will already be 9 (but they will almost ALL be summer birthdays), and the rest will turn 9 before the end of the following summer. So 12 months is generally the example.
