We just bought an older house in Arlington. We have about a 3/4" dip in the floor over the 900 square feet on the main floor. We have confirmed that this is a settling issue with the house and that the house is structurally sound. However, we want a cosmetic fix for the problem. We need a good contractor who will either build up the floor from the joists or apply some sort of self leveling compound. Once the floor is level, we'd like hardwood installed. Does anyone know of a flooring contractor they'd trust with this job? Obviously we don't know what the best solution is but we want something that's going to last.
No recommendation, but since it is such a unique situation I'd have several contractors look at it and give you quotes. They will all have different ideas on how to do the job.
I'd suggest M&M Floors in Fairfax. Did my friends' older home in N. Arlington and it came out great. We had them refinish our whole main floor and they did a fantastic job. Not the cheapest bid, but quality was very good, and they were great to work with. Helped me solve a weird issue with the threshold to our french doors and didn't charge extra for some extra work they did to make that fix.
