Hi. My husband, two-year-old daughter and I are relocating to DC temporarily for a year, and we'd like to rent a furnished home. I thought with all the transitory jobs in DC that it would be relatively simple to find what we're looking for. Turns out finding a spot in a preschool was easier! We'd love to be in the Cleveland Park area ... or somewhere along the red line with an easy commute to Dupont Circle. And we don't want to pay $4000/month for a corporate rental, which is much of what I've been able to find. We'd love to be in a home that we could care for and enjoy as if it were our own.
Thanks for any tips you can provide! |

Have you tried ForMilitaryByOwner.com? I believe they have a fair number of furnished homes for rent. However, since our military folks in the area who live in SFH tend to live in the suburbs, I'm not sure you will find what you are looking for in Cleveland Park.
You could also look for something unfurnished, then do furniture rental through CORT or similar. |
| Sabbaticalhomes.com has furnished rentals, though probably not in Cleveland Park. |
| I would encourage you to check out university webpages (esp American U, since you are looking in the general area) and craigslist. |
| OP here: Thanks to you all for your help. I have searched both MilitaryByOwner and Sabbatical Homes. As mentioned, the trouble seems to be that most furnished places that can accommodate a family are in the suburbs and most furnishing apts in the city are just one bedroom. I will definitely check out the University sites. Thanks again! |

We stayed the Randolph Towers temporarily before moving into our house-their furnished apartment was great, they have garage parking, a gym, business center, walking distance to lots of great restaurants, etc. It's not on the red line but it's 5 minutes walk to the Ballston metro which is on the orange line. Thought it would be useful should you have trouble finding something on the red line, and end up needing a place close to metro. | I'm sure something like this exists- there are families that go overseas for a year or 2 and would love to avoid the hassle of putting furniture in storage. How about placing a "Wanted" ad? |
