applying two years in a row? does this give us a better chance?

we have two schools that we would love to attend and did not get in this year. if we reapply for next year, do we have a better chance of getting in b/c we already applied previously?

That's definitely what they tell you. I don't know for certain if it's true.

I dont know either but its a good way to get your money!!

Seriously, it did work for us. 2 years ago. Got accepted at our first choice school the second try. They told us (when we saw the DA that summer) they really liked our son, hoped we would reapply, and knew he had another year available at his excellent preschool. In hindsight, they were right. That last preschool year was a year of amazing growth better accomplished at a small preschool (circumstances specific to him, of course) and he has thrived since moving to his current private school.

op here. thank you for your input. so did you reapply for the same grade ie: preschool or just for the next grade up?

It was for the next grade up, K.

To the OP - The PP 's experience is exactly like our experience. We applied for Pre - K at one of Big Private schools. Had a very similiar conversation with the DA. Decided to reapply this year for SY 08 - 09 and DC was accepted for K. Second time was a charm I encourage you to apply again especially if your family really likes the school. Make sure you attend an Open House and Tour although you did it a year ago. Also the process seemed a bit easier and less stressful the second time around. If possible try to contact the AD or write a letter stating your intentions to reapply and your reasons. Best of Luck!!

How different is the situation if you applied first for K and then for 1st grade?

Not sure but I wouldn't think it would be that different. Keep in mind they already know your family and your DC. If your family had a strong application I would think they would prefer your application over a brand new family. Make sure when you complete the application you note your DC's growth over the past year. Also if possible attend school events to show a strong genuine interest. I know some schools offer parent and parent and child courses and camp consider enrolling in these activities it shows you support the school.
