Food, Cooking, and Restaurants
| I am considering bringing a trifle to a barbecue tomorrow. Have never made one. Any good tried and true combinations? |

The best recipe is from the Harrods cook book. We make it every Christmas. It's so good.

| I saw Paula Deen make one yesterday. I would try the Food Network Website. It had chocolate pudding and whipped cream and some sort of baked bar cookie crumbled up. I missed the first part so I don't know exactly what went into the bars. |

I made a trifle once and while it tasted really good, by the time I transported it and it had sat for a while before being served, it was hideous. All the layers seeped into each other and it just looked terrible. I had it in a traditional clear glass trifle dish so you could see how every layer had blended together. If it was in a non see through dish no one would have known the difference.
Just something to keep in mind for a pot luck with a new recipe. |

This is one of those classic dishes that everyone makes differently, but here's how I do it:
Line the bottom of a glass dish with sponge cake (pound cake is fine). Drizzle with sherry. Add on top one cam drained fruit salad. Add a layer of custard. Instant is fine. Top with whipped cream, and on top of that, grated chocolate. Some people include jello, but not in our family. A layer of raspberry jam on top of the cake layer is a permissible variation. |
