Has anyone on EL Haynes waitlists gotten a call/email?

Anonymous
When do the EL Haynes waitlists typically begin to move? Is there deadline for current families and lottery winners to enrol?

I never got anything ever from them in writing after the lottery. That seems very odd to me. I called after the lottery and I was told our number which was relatively good but I never received either an email or postcard confirming that number, or a phone call about enrollment (I'm assuming they did not get to my number and we are going with anything choice so I didn't call myself).

We have a pretty good number on the waitlist. The deadline for enrollment is this, Friday, May 27th, but we got mixed messages about whether that means the waitlist will start moving shortly after that.

Yeah, for some reason, ELH is much more close-lipped about waitlist stuff. Although, I think, as always, it depends on who you get on the phone.

First day the Haynes school year is August 1st. I'd expect quite a bit of wait list movement after the no shows. If you're really interested, be sure they have your cell phone number at the beach.

Last year I received a call in October....so.....there is some hope.

OP here. Thanks for responding. I called again last evening and was informed that May 27 is the deadline for current families and for those who got in off the lottery. I was told to call back next week as they hope to start moving through the waitlists then.

Everyone will flame me for saying this, but May 27th is really late to be finally getting to the wait list -- the lottery was in late March. Contracts for private schools lock in on June 1st and you are really stuck with the tuition after that, so for our family, we'll have to go with the bird in hand, which is a private school spot, on June 1st.

I agree. Many schools want commitments even earlier in the year. There is no reason it should take you two months to commit to a spot.

Maybe the school is busy focusing on its existing children as it should.

Agree school should focus on educating its kids, but why were folks given so long after the lottery to decide?

that is not the date to decide - it is date date to have your paper work in - including proof of residency

Were they actually given this much time, or did a lot of people enroll why making the decision?

Last year my DC had a good wl number (lower 20s). Only one or two spots moved after the May deadline. The list doesn't move until after the school year begins in August. Then moves again after DCPS starts a month later. We got the call in October, but this year will be tougher due to the limited spots and number of returning students or siblings committed. If you really want ELH, your best bet is to secure a spot for fall that you wouldn't mind leaving if you get the call. Then try to enjoy your summer.

I spoke with a rep in the school who said realistically June 1 will be when they are ready to speak to waitlist movement.

I shared my concerns about this extremely late date and they said a lot of it has to do with:

-supporting the families already in the school who may struggle to get things in on time
-flexibility with students who will repeat a grade
-expanding organization that is understaffed to handle this entirely property

I will be sure to post what movement I see, we are just around #10 for PreK

FYI - EL Haynes is pretty close to the rest of DCPCS for when residency forms a due.
