Nope. No one believes this, even married couples without kids gets. Mcps is a shell of itself 15-20+ years ago, and so is the county.

What the PP means is: they don't like all those foreign-born people who live in Montgomery County these days.

Just stop. Now you’re completely unhinged and reading into things that aren’t there. Bored? No protests today? Some advice: you will always be offended if you’re always looking to be offended.

DP.. then tell us what the ^PP "really" meant. This seems to be a recurring theme with certain groups and a certain POTUS.

Yep, they don't like it that the county is getting more and more diverse, more brownish and less white.

Who said anything about being offended? It was a statement of fact.

I think Chevy Chase, Bethesda and Potomac should be one district and the rest of you should sort it out.

We had an equestrian team, go kart racing, Olympic pool, 32 tennis courts, free drivers Ed, free SAT tutors was glorious not sending out tax dollars to support deadbeats in other towns

That's nice. Why don't you raise your kids there so they don't have to mix with poor kids?

we try, but some are convinced that if only illiterate poor kids could only wittiness my kids doing algebra and going to lacrosse practice then hundreds of years of being exploited and abused will disappear.

Where’d the study on the education, literacy, and culture of the parents? Isn’t that the main driver of ones attitude towards learning, work ethic, discipline?

Until the left addresses this it will just be more bandaid money, wasted time, subpar education thrown down the garbage.

I think the "left" is trying to address it, at least here, by providing all kinds of parenting classes, education classes, supports ,etc..

So, if you think it's "wasted time", what should we do with these *children*? Should we kick them out of school?

Let's play this out.. let's say we kick them out of school. Then what? What type of adults do you think these children will become? What do you think this means long term for our society? Do you know that overall, it costs more to house a person in prison than it does to provide free PreK, meals, and support throughout their school years?

From an overall fiscal perspective, it's a lot cheaper for our society to support children through their school years than it is to house them in prison long term in jails.

Dcum supports tracking as long as their kids aren't funneled into trade school

"Bit every kid has to go to college" true but really you just are hoping that your kid had less competition when they apply

Perhaps, but their point is hardly speculation or random. Even a child could connect these dots.

This whole breaking into smaller districts is just another dog whistle. It's obvious.

Maybe some people are fed up with the whole "MCPS is too big to [insert absolutely everything under the sun]."

What's wrong with breaking it up between up/midcounty and downcounty?

Because it serves no purpose except to lock in certain school boundaries.

I can't tell if the proponents honestly believe it would do anything useful and positive. I think there's a handful of upcounty people that think they'd yield more political influence in a hypothetical upcounty district, but they're forgetting that a lot of decisions (like school construction and COVID reopening) would still be driven at the county level.

The weather thing is particularly ridiculous. There wouldn't be a big change in weather-related closures. You can't predict the boundaries of ice/snow that well in advance, and downcounty is still pretty geographically diverse. But perhaps most of all, they know people would be commuting from all over the county.

It's called private school, and there's a reason many are located in that area after people with means got sick of MCPS.
