Pumpkin

It was a romance/comedy between a mentally disabled young man and a normal young woman. The comedy part makes fun of sorority types.

Absolutely amazing. Looking forward to the sequel, The Look of Silence.

Act of Killing is one of those rare movies that I get kind of militant about with family and friends. I really want everyone to see that movie.

Pleasantville

Dean Spanley (with Sam Neill and Peter O Toole). It starts slowly like some kind of Masterpiece theatre piece, then after 20 minutes turns into a riotous story of reincarnation. Great for anyone who has ever loved a dog.

The Game with Michael Douglas -- Very unknown but it effects you in a way no other movie has since.

Radio Flyer -- You will be thinking about the ending long after you watch it. Very sad movie.

Fortress, a little-known Australian movie shown on HBO in the 80s. Loosely based on true life events. A bit of horror, a bit of Lord of the Flies.

This thread prompted me to go back and look up the title, and when I found it, I read a lot of reviews. Apparently I wasn't the only child of the 80s haunted by this movie.

Well, Gladiator was big, but I don't remember it staying with me. I want to see it again now because I think I was distracted the first time, and I had a hard time with his family/kid/whatever happened to them... Gladiator poster, what was it about the movie? Haunting?

As a parent, I found it haunting because he held his family close in his heart, as did his fellow gladiator friend, despite all the violence and tragedy they experienced. I don't think I would have felt that way were I not a parent at the time. I also found Russell Crowe's "A Brilliant Mind" even more haunting. He should have won the Oscar for that one. I do have a sibling with schizophrenia and found it to be an eye-opener, even with its "creative" differences from the real story. [/quote]

+1. Agree completely. I also have a sibling with schizophrenia and it was absolutely eye-opening and a jaw-dropper for someone unfamiliar with the real-life story upon which it was based.
