Mini Aussie's are nice...I tend to agree that the little ones tend to be horrific |
In the UK pugs are so inbred that they are now down to only having 40 genetically distinguishable individuals, in other words if they did DNA tests for all the pugs there would only be 40 different results. Also the Pug who was rated best in class for 5 years was looked over by a vet on a tv program on the BBC and he concluded that the dog had so many health concerns that it should have been put down at birth. It had all kinds of problems with its breathing, another problem where there are holes that go from the bones out through its skin on its back sinus something or other, it had hip problems, was considered blind...the list goes on and on yet this poor thing was considered the best specimen to distinguish the breed....very very sad! Dog shows are making mutants of our pets, take a look at what almost any dog breed looked like 100 years ago compared to todays standards. They all look like cartoon characters now! Well not all but a lot! |
Wow what an ass to think its ok to leave a dog in a crate that long....why would you get a Jack if you don't want a dog with a lot of energy? why do you even have a dog man thats totally cruelty! And to think I have felt bad this week for only having my dog out side playing for 3 hours each day. |
Did you really expect a lazy border collie? even as a cross? Everyone always want border collies because of how smart they are and they are a cute dog but they under estimate the energy, as well as the mental activity. You have to plan on spending at least a few hours a day outside with them each day and you have to have the patience to get them doing home work I make mine learn a new trick or command every week and we work on it every single night. I also have made his matt a command so I can tell him to sit on his matt and stay until I release him...he thinks this is his job when i give the command and he takes his work very seriously so he will sit on that matt fully engaged with sitting there waiting until i say the magic word. They are amazing dogs if you are an amazing owner, if you are a lazy owner the dog is going to be horrible. |
Sounds like you aren't right for him better off not being with him if you dont like him....you sound bitter though I hope you know |
Shes probably more bored with hearing about your kids than anything! I'd rather be around any dog than any kid anytime! Im really glad your friend loves her dog she sounds like an excellent dog owner. |
It really bothers me when the pitbull people are ignorant about their own dogs. These dogs are big and powerful and they have a bad reputation for a reason. Not all pits are the same but they have the ability to clamp down and lock onto their prey this is what makes them so dangerous they are like the crocodile of the dog world. While I dont think all of them are bad I do think that because of the type of people who get this kind of dog (usually to make up for vacant space between their legs) they should be banned. They are being used as weapons and to intimidate and its not good for the animals or people. There are plenty of other breeds out there for people to pick from that don't have the same problems attached to them. If you want a dog you should be able to make due with one of the less socially conflicted breeds. |

great pyrenees---scared the bejesus out of me! (dominance/alpha issues) |
Great post. I would never adopt a collie unless I had a lot of time to devote to its training and exercise. Also, I'm surprised at PPs saying shelties are mean. In my experience, they are wonderfully tolerant, sweet, and fiercely loyal. Definitely a handful though! |
Shelties are horrible dogs if you live near other people. They are fiercely loyal - to you. They treat everything and everyone else like intruders. They really belong on a farm. If I could run over one Sheltie a day, I would. Absolutely hate them. |
Wow, you really despise Shelties. I'm sorry for whatever one did to you. Yes, they bark. So do many breeds. All I can say is that I grew up with more than one, and they were perfect family dogs. |
Lots of dogs bark. Few nip and bite children with the frequency that Shelties do. Not a good breed if you ever plan to have the children of friends at your house. |
Agreed. Everyone I have met is annoyingly aloof and skittish. Sneaky food stealers too |
Bot to argue about this further, but I think that like all dog breeds, it depends on the individual dog. The 3 shelties I grew up with never nipped or bit me, and were pretty non-reactive of me and my siblings' petting, tail fur pulling, etc. But maybe we had unusual Shelties. |
