What about Tuesday?

I actually think it means this wasn’t straightforward.

I think it means they are making their decision based on what neighboring jurisdictions decide. I think Fairfax just announced 2 hour delay. PGCPS has not yet announced.

FCPS announced hours ago.

Yes they're open tomorrow with a 2 hr delay. It's going to be embarassing if MCPS is closed tomorrow. Eight days after a storm. Smh.

Odds are for a delayed opening for MCPS. But they're trying to come up with ways to justify it - that's what taking all that time. The about-face!

The message yesterday was so shocking to me: I thought they were really boxing themselves in. What idiots. At some point this week they will need to open, and the conditions will still be the same.

People will just be happy to see them open. They'll largely ignore justifying why they closed today.

Ha! Make parents so desperate that all the shilly-shallying is brushed under the rug. It's one method, I guess.

Not surprised at all. As far as I know, there is no dialogue about snow removal services between the County and the MCPS Central Office, which there should be. For the county, standards of snow removal have been met. For the school, they haven't. It's on the school system to demand additional assistance from the county, and apparently, they either have not done so, or have not been able to access them. More transparency is needed in their dealings. I suspect neither wants the extra snow removal to come from their budget!

And that's a lack of leadership from the top. DCPS for all of its flaws, prioritized opening schools and getting the National Guard to help with snow removal. MoCo doesn't seem to care if all the other schools around them are open.

Daylight. Helping spread out what will be nightmare traffic which doesn’t help when people are walking in the roads, etc..

Oh goody. Will they blame the people of MoCo for not shoveling adequately again? Because it's obvious that no school district anywhere can open if there's ice on a single sidewalk.

Yes the blame shifting did not escape me in yesterday's message. Way to get the parents on your side, MCPS-

MCPS has the school district personality of a lazy, surly teenager. Doesn't include more than 1 snow day in the calendar. Refuses to do the virtual learning plan for emergency weather that it said it would do in 2024. And then blames the MoCo community for inadequately shoveling.

They are trying to win our hearts and minds with their comms.

I’m going with a delay bc they’re dammed if they do and damned if they don’t. At least a delay gives them some coverage to open and slightly warmer temps by mid morning.

Who is damning them? The storm ended 7 days ago. People are laughing at MoCo for being so slow, and pitying MoCo for being so incompetent. But not damning them.

They very much do, but are realizing this only now. The time to remove all that ice and snow was last week and last weekend. Now it's opening time, and oops - MCPS not quite ready.

Is it back to the days when they would announce at 4am?

Anonymous wrote:It's nuts that MCPS hasn't announced anything yet. I get that it's probably that they want to open but don't feel confident it's safe yet, but at least send out a darn email at 2 or 3 saying "we'll let you know sometime this evening" rather than us expecting something at 3-4 and still waiting.

Someone sent a draft message to their boss and the boss hasn't approved it yet.

I think we have a 5% chance of opening ontime. MCPS is being dragged kicking and screaming into opening. If it opens tomorrow, it will be a two hour delay.

Even if they wanted to close or delay the amount of backlash they are getting= they will open on time.

Sure it is. They just have to be willing to do it.

They messed up yesterday's message pretty badly. They had to re-issue it like 2 hours later because the language about teacher presence was wrong or whatever

Taylor knows his days are numbered. He doesn't care.

Temp will be 18 degrees for a normal opening tomorrow. They won’t do that with all the remaining ice.
