So far, all d1. 1 Ivy. |
There are way less academic scholarships than you think. And by the way getting a $25k discount at a schools that costs $85k per year means you are still paying $60k a year. But sure if you want to call that an academic scholarship go ahead. Truth is athletics is still your best chance to get serious money for college. If your kid is decently talented there is scholarship money for them if you know where and how to look. |
Oh, I know. I went through it with my DD. June 15 was absolute madness with texts rolling in at midnight and then calls lined up pretty much throughout the next few days. Verbal offers getting made, some with time constraints and then offers to visit campus once 8/1 happened. Traveled so that we could arrive to the first campus on 8/1. Visited another school and committed the following week. There is a lot of soccer left to be played before even arriving on campus. That's my point and what we, as parents, have been emphasizing with our DD. It's not the time to coast. Plus, she still has other soccer goals outside of college. Now, she's worked so hard to get to this point, I don't see that happening, but it's a long road ahead. Good Luck to all. |
Yep. That's the case. Tennessee for example, announced that they are fully funding their women's soccer program, so 28 full scholarships. There's I believe multiple RU and VDA players committed there. Those saying that an academic scholarship is just a likely is probably not accurate. |
Parents need to be realistic about who is getting these scholarships at schools like Tennessee and how your own DD measures up to them. To begin with your player needs to be a starter on a ECNL or GA team, and not just any team but one of the top 2 or 3 teams in their age group in the DMV area, and not just a starter but a standout starter who is having a significant impact on games. Each game should full of highlightable moments that you can collect and send to coaches. Any spectator could watch 20 minutes of a game and say yeah that player is good. If you aren't sure if your DD measures up to this level then I'm sorry but she probably doesn't. You would know if she was that good. Every player at Tennessee was one of these standout impact club players. |
Tennessee rolls their roster over every year and brings in 6, 7, 8 transfers and dumps the girls they don't want. Been doing it for years. |
The transfer portal in many ways has made it worse for players overall. While they have the flexibility to move, the coaches now have the same flexibility to move them out as well. I know that was an big deal for my DD when looking to schools - what were their transfers in and out like over the past few years and what sort of stability did the coach have with the program overall. |
|
Yea time to roll them again after that loss. |
VT has even a worse reputation for doing this on top of a complete a-hole coach. I feel sorry for the players that commit there every year, especially if soccer is the goal. Nothing wrong with taking that first year or two at a discount. |
How many transfers did VT bring in this year besides Salama? |
| It’s obvious the VT coach is a douchebag. |
Because he didn’t recruit your DD! |
| I wouldn’t let my DD play at VT if they gave her full scholarship and a $100k NIL deal. If you know, you know. |
Agree. Would never want my dd recruited there. |
