Predictions Snow Feb 11?

Anonymous
I predict a regular day until snow totals start coming in higher and trend sooner than expected, then an early release at the last minute.

The alternative is a regular day and snow accumulations with everyone trying to get out of school as it is falling and starting to pile up with a dicey commute home.

We've done both before.

I mean…is there any chance that they’ll do a full day when almost all others have announced early dismissal or closure?

The 2-hour delay/un-delay is starting to seem more like a symptom of something bigger than a one-off.

Agree - vacillating from one extreme (Saturday) to another (Tomorrow).

I think it's highly unlikely they have a full day. I suspect early release.

.

I hope they change to an early release, but if I recall correctly I think MCPS has already been a step down from neighboring counties a couple times this winter (by which I mean, 2h delay instead of closure or nothing instead of 2h delay).

Look at the forecast. It's warm until well after school lets out. They'll stay open.

The forecast I see from two sources is 32 degrees with a 90% chance of snow when my kid’s school dismisses. I’m not sure what you are talking about.

That’s funny bc I really liked getting it! It was informative, explained their reasoning, tried to calm people down about the fact that it MIGHT BE SNOWING at dismissal even if they don’t do an early release and it’ll be okay because of the air temps and likely decent road conditions.

Compared to how it used to be? Nothing at all until 5 am the day of? No explanations ever? This seemed like an improvement to me.

MCPS parent since 2008

It has gotten more wordy. Good or bad is debatable. Anyways, doesn't look like a video will be coming this time.

They listened to DCUM which had a hissy fit over the last 2 hour delay and this Saturday’s cancellations.

MCPS let high schools open last Thursday before child care providers and just forgot all about the full day child care providers. Then they needlessly insisted on shutting down all activities at 6am on Saturday. The people in charge of these decisions are obviously idiots, and deserve the criticism. Sorry you don't like it and insist on using sexist language to shut people up.

You think hissy is a sexist word?

It means tantrum.

You need a dictionary.

Yep should have kept that delay instead of reversing it after families had already scrambled to arrange child care. 160,000 students, 25,000 staff, 211 schools, 13,024 bus stops.

Government announced early release (2pm). Surely so can MCPS.

Mcps needs to close. 2pm for offices? With an early release, some schools close as late as 1:30 and some have busses that leave after that.

Montgomery college also issued an early close tomorrow and they are slower to close than MCPS. Early release is inevitable.
