Maybe stepson. |
I definitely got the sense that Jake is Robby's son, and that Robby is divorced from but on good terms with Jake's mom.
Robby is not currently married, or if he is, he is separated, because Nurse Dana has multiple times referenced the fact that Robby and Dr. Collins were romantically involved at some point but it didn't work out. A major plot point seems to be the fact that Robby does not know that Dr. Collins is pregnant and that his interest in this would be more than that of a colleague. When Robby sees Dr. Collins giving herself an ultrasound, he later asks to speak to her privately (he asks as though they are talking about a patient or something work-related, but in this tone that you can tell it's a cover story for asking her about the ultrasound) but she doesn't want to talk to him about it. My current suspicion is that Robby is divorced because being an ER doctor is not conducive to being a particularly good spouse, and that Jake is his son from that marriage. I think he and Dr. Collins dated, but that they broke up because Robby is still not really processing/dealing with his PTSD from Covid or his feelings about Dr. Adamson's death. I think while they were dating, Robby learned that Dr. Collins wanted to have a child and perhaps they even discussed having a baby together, but because Robby is issues, Dr. Collins broke things off with him. And now Dr. Collins is trying to have a baby on her own and she doesn't want to discuss it with Robby because it will bring up the feelings they have for each other and she doesn't want that distraction at work when she knows they cannot be together because of Robby's issues. I could be wrong about all of that but that's the general vibe I'm getting. Oh, and Dana knows all of this because she's one of the very few people that both Robby and Collins confide in and she's known them both forever (she's worked in the ER for 30 years) and can read them really well. |
What? I’ve been watching since Day 1 and never saw this. Can you give specific episodes please? |
I tried to watch, especially since I'm from Pittsburgh. Found it super boring and didn't like the gore, either. |
This didn’t happen…. |
I found the first several episodes a little slow but it got better. How far did you get? |
At least one of these times is in the episode with Jake that I just rewatched. Dana says that Collins and Robby used to be together and Collins says, "That was a million years ago" or something like that, and Dana says something like, "it's not too late" or "you never know". |
You’re right! I just found it and rewatched it as well - episode 5. Robby and Collins seem to have zero chemistry though so it’s not really believable. Also, why was Jake so tight with Dr. Langdon? |
Collins says we dated briefly…didn’t sound serious. |
Ia it possible Jake is Adamson’s son and Robby is sort of a surrogate father to him since his real father died? |
Oh that's funny because from their very first scene together I thought they'd been together in the past and had an awkward, if not bad, breakup |
Well thanks for this. I only made it about 1/2way through the first episode and was totally uninterested. Maybe I'll give it another shot because usually I enjoy medical shows and it would be cool to watch something set in my hometown. |
PP here and which part? Dr. Collins and Robby were definitely involved at some point and it's going to be a plot point on the show because they've brought it up twice and now Robby knows that Dr. Collins is/was pregnant and he is the only one on the staff who knows anything about her miscarriage. The stuff about why things didn't work out and why Collins is avoiding him/maintaining distance from him now is speculation on my part but I think grounded in their words and behavior. |
I assume Jake is tight with Dr. Langdon because Jake has been coming around the ER for basically Dr. Langon's entire residency so they've seen each other "grow up" (Jake into becoming an adult, and Langdon from a baby doctor to a real doctor). The nursing staff was also super friendly with him. So basically all the longtime staff know him well because he's been around a lot. |
I had to give it another shot too. I did the same, watched about half of the first episode and thought nah…. But tried it again and go thoroughly hooked. |
