If you left APS for private…

The private middle school enrolled, and employed, few minorities and non-Catholics, far from ideal from our point of view. The students were too sheltered for our liking. The adjustment to W-L wasn’t easy, but we prefer to have the kid struggle a little to cope with the rough and tumble of moving in a larger world now than later on. He has some excellent teachers in intensified classes and nice friends from all sorts of backgrounds.

If you could do it again, would you make the same choice for middle school? I've heard APS middle school isn't great, and Catholic schools are less expensive as far as private goes. I did an IB program and would love for my kids to end up at WL.

DHMS is great for middle IMO.

My understanding is that APS middle school is getting better now that intensified classes for science, English and social studies start in 7th grade rather than 8th (only true as of this school year). If this had been true for my eldest, now a 9th grader, we might have gone with an APS middle school. My kid is deeply average for math at W-L since his public school friends had better prep. Don’t believe the hype about how fantastic private schools are. They toot their own horns aggressively of course.
