Am I remembering incorrectly, or did AP tests used to be graded on a bell curve? In the late 90s, I remember our teacher showing us the bell and making a huge deal out of 4s and 5s, along with being very pleased with 3s. Even the ivy bound kids didn't get all 5s. I know the scoring is different now...

No, that is still correct. They aim to keep the 5s to a small percentage. In the harder self-selecting courses though, you will see more 5s (Calc BC, Chinese, etc.), because if you didn't people would stop taking them.

Why does it show that? My 9th grader took it and got a 2. Huge history buff, but clearly not ready for that level. By junior year was getting 4s and 5s.

I don't care who got what on the AP exams. I'd rather have the GPA number as I think that is more reflective of whether the material was understood. AP exams are a specific animal and the kids are taught how to take the tests, in addition to the material. So they are not as reflective of material, imo.

In many schools, everyone gets an A. GPA doesn't reflect anything except that the student has a pulse. Exams ar reflective of whether the material was understood.

Nah. My kid's classes not everyone got As. And as stated, AP exams test a certain way. That's why every class my kid has taken has had to spend some days teaching "how to take the test." You know this. I know you do.

Why would PP know anything about your kid's class?

Freshman got a 5 in Calc BC. Apparently 45 kids got perfect scores. Make of that what you will.

I see someone said CB sends an email if you got a perfect score.

Is a score breakdown available otherwise?

That is excellent. Many schools put APUSH in 12th grade because there's such a huge amount of material to cover.

Holy moly. I thought I'd seen it all. Admittedly my very closest 2-3 friends and I probably will share our kids scores (with kids' permission) but social media? Add their SAT scores and class rank while you're at it.

Just graduated kid got four 4's and a 5 - same kid last year got four 5's and a 4 when very motivated to use them for applications. Did not study this year. Either way is now getting 10 classes out of the way!

Thank you! He had two end of year disappointments so this was big win for him. He tried very hard.

AP Lang only 9% of students got a 5, and only 54% of students passed. BC calc 45% of students got a 5 and 80% passed. Obviously only the top math students are getting to Calc BC so in a way it makes sense. But AP Lang pass rate is interesting. It is mainly juniors I think who take it.

AP physics 1 only 8% got a 5, 18% a 4, and 20% a 3. This was the test with the lowest pass rate at only 46%.

83% passed AP Spanish Lang,

APUSH this year 72% passed while last year only 47.5% passed. They slightly changed how the grade essays but that mage a big difference.

There was reported RAMPANT cheating in China this year. Massive. Is it possible that they have a harder time cheating on AP Lang? I would imagine that cheating on the science disciplines is quite easy. The tests were leaked in advance of being taken.

CB cancels many scores in China including physics, chemistry, biology, calculus, statistics, economics, psychology, environmental sciences, etc

What I've read is that they only cancelled some and ultimately don't really care. Apparently the tests were leaked en masse.

My DC said the tests were up all over tik tok a week before the exam. APUSH in particular.
