I promise you that theres enough busy body moms out there that are just looking for things like this.
What about the schools that don't have defined grades?

My son was in this situation. His “Pod” had 3rd 4th and 5th graders in one room. 16 kids.
We could have easily produced paperwork to say whatever we wanted it to say.

No the issue is if youre going to switch from BY to SY do it right and address all the issues. Don't resolve one issue by creating another.
Can you think of an outside the box way that will address all of the issues where everyone will agree that the plan is the correct way to go?

Here is a crazy solution, this solves both the Q3/4 Karen complaints, and RAE!

What if we do a 10 month window?

March-December.

We take out all the Jan / Feb kids, so RAE is solved. And, if they want to play, they have to play up a year, which makes Karen happy because her September kid gets to punch Jan/Feb babies in the face while she brags about how dear son Chadwick is already thinking about Europe at the ripe age of 8, and that’s why it’s so hard to fit French AND Spanish lessons in between practices.

Geez ... what's next Thunderdome?

Anson had it right, a cauldron of competition! We figured it out too late. Thunderdome it is.

Most Montessori schools are like this. They are still assigned a “year” but are in class with kids in multiple “grades.” But this example doesn’t matter. Soccer cutoff is based on a calendar year starting on 8/1. There will be a small number of kids not aligned with their grade. Right now - there are a lot of kids not aligned with their grade.

Your problem is thinking everyone has to agree. A 12-month cutoff without waivers is what’s going to happen so you’ll just have to deal.

If they were going to do waivers it would be 9/1 or 10/1 as the cut off. Moving to 8/1 makes waivers moot.

Has nothing to do with Karen. Different school districts around the US have different start dates. This is why a single cutoff date will never work for everyone.

Grad Year?

League play and nationals will be 8/1.
U19 will also be grad year from what I’m told.

My buddy is a lawyer and works as a consultant for USSF. So he gets details on some of this stuff.

I’ve been calling my shots since the beginning.

Hate it or love it it is what it is.

Beginning August 2025?

26/27

SY+30 with a 9/1 cutoff is the same thing as an 8/1 cutoff.

Theres all kinds of things that can happen

They have no clue + are just making things up.

Probably the same numbnut that claimed to have "Trish the Commish" from GA on speeddial.

Lol nope not that guy they are on here somewhere lurking in the shadows.

I’m the guy in September who said they are changing to SY.

Then I was the guy saying they are going 8/1 and everyone said you idiot they announced 9/1.

Now in the guy saying ECNL showcases will be GY as of now that will be for U15-19. But things can change.

If I find out I will let you know.

Can anyone dumb this down for me. No matter how many times I read it, I just can't understand it. I'll make up a pretend scenario. Can someone try to explain?

My child was born September 5, 2017, but we waited to start school due to Covid. Instead of going into 3rd grade, my child will be entering 2nd grade. Under the birth year system, my child is playing with other 2017s who are mostly going into 3rd grade next year and who are mostly older since my child's birthday is near the end of the year. In this scenario, my child is in a lower grade than soccer peers on the current team.

New system ---> August 1-July 31 dates. Are those the cut off dates for when the birthday occurs? Does that mean to be on a U9 team, you would have to be 9 years old or under that specific year between the dates of August 1 to July 31? If so, does that put a September 5, 2017 birthday as a U9 player this year AND next year when the change occurs since September 5, 2026 is when my child turns 9?

Please help my tired brain.
