| I'm considering buying one...but would love to hear from anyone who uses one before I take the plunge. I've been waxing my legs for many years, but it is just too expensive so I thought this might be a good alternative. Is the Epilady much more painful than waxing?? |

It is the single most painful thing I have ever experienced in my life. I would much rather give birth, than use that thing. I have a very low skin pain threshhold though. I can wax, but not use the epilady.
DH uses one though, and he doesn't think it is so bad. He once did his pits, and said that was a huge mistake. |
I agree--it was unbearably painful. I can't believe they would sell something that could be used as a torture device. |

I have an Emjoi. From what I understand it's similar to an Epilady in that it kinda "tweezes" out the hair.
I'm pretty hairy, with dark hair on my legs, and I have to say, I LOVE having the Emjoi. Waxing gets too expensive, and you have to wait for so long for the hair to grow in between waxes. With my Emjoi, I don't have to worry about making an appointment if I want to wear shorts, etc. Plus, the hair definitely grows in thinner. I do end up with ingrowns though. But, I'm not great about exfoliating, etc. I've only used it on my legs and don't find it any more painful than waxing. It's obviously more painful than shaving, but if you've been waxing for years, I don't think you'll have issues with pain. I have to agree that using it on one's pits would seem too painful for me to try. |
| I had an epilady years ago. I'd rather get waxed during childbirth than use one again. |
| I bought one when they first came out in the early 1990s I think. Perhaps they have improved now. However, the one I had was awful. It was very painful, made my skin red and swollen. |

I JUST got one, and I really don't think its bad at all. I have heard that the newer models are much much better than the older ones...
I've waxed before, and I find that to be pretty damn painful. The FIRST time you use the Epilady, it hurts some... but I thought much better than waxing. After that its really easy (just like waxing). I like it because its much cheaper, and I can do it when I want... instead of having to make an appointment at the spa. I really like mine. |

I had Epilady. It broke and I bought one made by Phillips. It is much better. It has this little massaging piece, that pulsates and gets blood flowing to the skin and that makes it a bit less painful.
I find that it works well with dark hairs below the knees. I've been using these devices for years and have obviously fewer hairs growing. Above knees it IS painful, but doable. I can stand quite a bit of pain though. |
| I think the EpiLady violates the terms of the Geneva Convention. I'm also scared of that Pedi-Egg thing that supposedly shaves the crust off your feet. But I haven't experienced that one. Saw it on TV. |
| I just read (in Shape? Self?) that there is a new generation of epiladies that are vastly more comfortable, and also more effective. |
| I have one though not sure which brand it is. The first few times it hurts, but you get used to it and if you do it before the hair gets too long you'll barely feel it. Good luck. |
| Yes - ouch, ouch, ouch! It also really irritated my hair follicles - they all became enlarged, red, and scabby. |

The Pedi-Egg rocks! Seriously, no pain at all when you're using it...but one must be careful not to shave off too much in one sitting. Because then your feet are raw and walking could become painful. |

Seriously the most painful thing ever. I am very hairy and kept psyching myself up to try again. Not only was it ridiculously painful (and I think I have a high threshold for pain), I didn't think it worked very well. This was also in the 90s though and it sounds like they it has improved.
I'm so relieved to know I wasn't alone in my hatred of this thing! I've never met anyone else who had one so I always thought it was just me! |
