Neighbor's Cat Under My Deck for the Past 2 Weeks....What to Do?

Anonymous
My neighbor came over a couple of weeks ago and told us his indoor cat got out and is under our deck. He wanted us to lure it out. But even though he said he wanted it back, all he did was complain about how this cat pooped and peed all over the house. And if it wasn't for his daughter who was so attached, he'd just get rid of it. His wife was able to get the cat back the next day or so, but now this cat has been hiding under our deck for almost 2 weeks now.

I have told them about the cat twice now, and they just say, "Oh, we'll get her." But they never do. We can't physically get near the cat, who hisses like crazy. We have been feeding the cat off and on, which is probably a mistake, I know. But I can't just let her starve.

So what am I supposed to do about this cat mewing under our deck in the middle of the night, in the rain and thunderstorms? I feel very sorry for it, but am clueless about cats in general.

Call animal control in the county where you live.

Call the SPCA? Animal control? Your neighbor does not sound very responsible. Maybe the SPCA/animal control would be nice enough to knock on the neighbor's door before they take the animal off everyone's hands.

They are really understaffed and underfunded. I will call, but I can't believe this would be any type of priority call for them. If they show up at all.

OK, that's what I'll do.

Set out a cat trap. When she gets hungry enough, she'll go after the food in the trap. Then set the trap, with the cat inside, on your neighbor's door step.

I wonder if the cat is pregnant?

My first thought was also that the cat is pregnant, although I don't know how long a gestating cat would settle in somewhere like this. OP, stop feeding the cat, and it will come out.

Pregnant or dying was my first thought. When a cat is dying, they often go off somewhere to be alone and refuse to eat.

Yeah. Or injured. Cats will hide when they are hurt. Please call animal control, TODAY.

I agree, call animal control. Your neighbors don't deserve to own a cat.

don't feed the cat anymore. He/She is probably terrified being outside since he/she is an indoor cat. Tell the neighbors to put food out at their house and the cat will wander back over there to eat. Can you block your deck or yard so the cat can't come back once he/she is not under there anymore?

Water hose. Cat will take off. The weather's nice today, so no issue on it being too cold.

I think the cat might be pregnant. A cat of a friend of mine had the litter under their screened in porch.
