Does anyone know of a Korean language class for a 2 year old in the northern Virginia area? We live in Arlington. I tried some google searches but came up empty. |
| Call local Korean churches, most begin programs when children are older- I don't live in your area. Unless you are fluent yourself, it is not going to really benefit your child. Do you speak and understand Korean? Right now consider playing children songs and sing together; get a child dictiOnary and learn simple things together- animals, colors. Good luck |

Hi! I'm actually looking for the same thing. I have 2 year old boys (twins). I speak Korean with them at home, but their dad isn't Korean, so they don't hear and learn as much as I'd like. I would really like to find something, if only to get my kids to socialize with other kids. We'll be moving to Sterling in a couple of weeks.

There is a Korean school in Centreville. If you don't read Korean, scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and they have the registration form in English. My kids aren't old enough to attend yet, so I don't have any personal experience. http://www.tckschool.com/xe/regi
There is another school that I have heard of that is apparently less formal. No personal experience with this one either. They don't have a website, but you can contact Mrs. Kim at 703-618-5545. |

Hi - I live in Arlington too. I have a 4 year old and 3 year. My friend recommended the program at his church but it isn't religous at all. But they only accept children starting at year 4. It is super inexpensive and is for 4hrs! Not only language but art, calligraphy and gym. I am signing up my husband as well. You can complete the form for 2011/2012 and just note that it is for 2012/2013. Adults are free except an $80 registration fee.

hello,
Beginning in the fall when schools start up again (Fairfax County) schedule, there is The First Korean Methodist Church Korean school[i] on 2730 Centreville Road (571) 643-0800 ask for Korean Ministry pastor's wife, Herndon (across from Open Door Church - one of the biggest Korean churches in the area). It is run by rotating group of volunteers who are truly dedicated. It's not a for profit thing so be patient in getting info. They begin from ages 3-4 I believe (more like 4 but if you're child is mature enough [potty-trained and independent, and can follow direction], they may make an exception. I will be starting my 4 yr. old there this fall. It's once a week on friday nights from 6:30PM-8:50PM. It's great because the teachers are all moms and they split up the evening with first half being language learning and the next half, whatever the student or parent chooses as an extracurricular activity, such as music, taekwondo, art, origami/balloon design, etc. In between the two sessions, they feed the kids a good hearty snack/late dinner (you can let them know if you're child has allergies). The staff is wonderful and I've been sending my oldest for 2-3 years now. The kids love it. Small cozy groups where teachers and kids get to know each other well. Once during the year they have a "Korean festival" where the kids experience purchasing Korean snacks and knick-knacks with play Korean money the teachers give them. At the end of the year there is an end of the year show by the kids and awards ceremony (where everyone is given an award). It's about fellowship among those wishing their children to learn Korean language. The pace is slow so beginners to advanced can always catch up. Used to send my kid to Open Door Korean school but their program is very intense and fast. Unless you are working with them every week and sitting with them for a few hours a week, they will fall behind. More for the kids who have some basic comprehension. Theirs is a few hours long starting every Saturday morning. There is a charge for both Korean schools. I believe it cost us around $250-$300 for the entire year which includes EVERYTHING - books, materials, snacks... |
