This seems related to our perception of guilt in the Lululemon case. There is some truth here... |
| Sorry. That's white women's lives! NOT live's! |
|
That was so damn funny.
Unrelated but, I look a lot like Natalie Hollaway (sp?) and it took years before people stopped looking at me funny. I'm 30 now, so I think I was only a few years older than her. |
| At first, I was so uncomfortable with my thoughts about this--it seemed unthinkable. Then it was just. funny. Is that so wrong? It feels wrong. |

i think the lululemon case would have got as much attention as it did even if the blond girl had killed the black girl.
it was where and how that mattered most, not who. |

I don't think the bias is race. But people are fixated about this because this crime occurred close to home - either physically close or because people shop there.
We are far more callous with crimes that are safely away from us. The reason we have so many Nancy Drews on the thread is that posters need to make sense of the crime so they feel safe that it won't happen to them. The scariest feeling is that it might be random and unforeseeable, that people like that might attack you on the street or in your home. |
Yeah - this just isn't the right example. Kidnapping, gun violence, sextuplets - those are all MUCH more important when white people are involved. |
OMG its you again! You had to post this BS on another thread. I think you are the one that has to make sense of it to feel safe stop blaing your ignorance and stupidity on other posters. You are annoying just go away! |
| And PS it was not a random crime dumb ass! |
Nadya Suleman's only half white, so does she count? |

People are facinated and it is getting so much attention because it happened in downtown Bethesda, at an UPSCALE store that RICH people shop at. period. the end. Things like this do not normally happen in yoga stores that sell pants for $150. Even littering is frowned upon in Bethesda, you can't even so much throw a bananna peel out your window without getting dirty looks from pedestrians. Now we have a murder....when is the last time that happened?
This is not just another dead prostitute or another black on black murder in PG. Why would people get in an uproar due to another murder in PG? That just more the the same old same old. yawn. |

This isn't the case world-wide, right? I mean, it's possible missing white people get more play because this country's majority white, isn't it? Something like 64%, according to the 2010 census.
As per the PP who said that these things get more publicity the closer to home they hit...well, I can see that people would pay more attention if it's someone with a similar life to them (same race, same class, same age, etc), than if the person involved is very different. Considering that the next largest minority group (black people) is only 13% of the population, it's at least plausible that this could be the case. Along these lines, I pay a lot of attention to stuff on the news that happens to Asian Americans (because I'm married to an Asian). |
Actually, they were not sextuplets, but were octuplets. She rightfully got a ton of publicity because they are the longest surviving octuplets in the entire world for all of history. Black or white, that is pretty remarkable. |
As far as multiples born, she is a record holder for most babies every birthed at one time, surviving the longest in history, she is a world/history record holder. |
Wow, pp. Settle. We now know it was not random. And as horrible as that is, it is relief to many. Just hope this doesn't morph into the OJ case with the same sort of racial divide wrt guilt or innocence. |
