Bethesda Soccer On Way Down

Even worse. Is like a 8 year olds going on a play date with his school friends.

It's the sign of insecure people.

JC is like the “VIPs” on Squid Game’s last season talking about eliminating a baby from the game.

No club enforces this policy against their best players. If they’re trying to enforce it against your kid, they do not want your kid.

If they were trying to enforce it against my kid, I would be the one leaving.

This guest playing policy at BSC really started happening about 5-6 years ago stemming largely from their 2010 boys group. That group was so good. So much so that almost every kid (all the starters for sure) on that team are either at DCU or playing in Europe right now. Those kids played everywhere. Sometimes destroying bsc teams while guest playing and JC didn't like that. Bsc was used to dominating everything and this was when, at least on the boys side, the wheels started coming off of their dominance and standing. When told they couldn't do this and that, after the season was over, that team got up and left bsc. ALL of the top players left. Not one of them. ALL OF THEM. That 2010 group was one of the best teams in the country at the time and bsc squandered the opportunity to keep them because they were arrogant and wanted control. From then on at least on the boys side, it was a downward spiral. Now look at them. Bsc has no dominant teams on the boys side..NONE. In any age group. Keeping the talent they have is their main priority amd has been since then. They resort to a lot of really questionable tactics to do this.

Every person I know playing in COPA, non-BSC, and that is a bunch, did not have to ask their club for permission. It is no issue, same as winter Futsol clubs. If it is at BSC, that is a huge issue and should be enough to leave. Or stay, what do I care if you submit to that nonsense. That is your choice. But you would not have to make that choice elsewhere. No matter the age.

This story started last year when a 2016 parent put together a team for the kids to play summer tournaments. JC opposed that, and the situation escalated to the point that the parent ended up filing a formal complaint with the Olympic Committee for Safe Sports, which regulates abuse in youth soccer.

Now the same parent, who is no longer at BSC, is organizing summer teams again, and JC is retaliating by making sure the 2016 BSC kids don’t join.

Anonymous wrote:“Hey 2016s,
Just a reminder our players are not allowed to guest play with other clubs that includes over the summer.
If that is an issue please contact Trevor or I. This is a club policy we do not allow players to play with other clubs. Please reach out if you have any questions.“

Yeah, it’s nonsensical. We want to keep you tied to Bethesda and will kick you out of the club if you try to improve outside of BSC. It’s like being in a relationship with someone who’s jealous and controlling, the harder they squeeze the more you pull away. Instead of trying to enforce contracts on 9 year olds maybe focus on making the experience at the club so positive and fun for the kids that they wouldn’t think of leaving just because someone recruits them at a tournament. Which, BTW, BSC is also guilty of doing all the time.

Yes, it would be a clear indication that they do not value your kid so the parents will likely walk.

Ultimately, this just hurts the kids. If they want to play and have fun when there is no BSC conflict, they should be able to. This is unfortunate, but not surprising, given BSC leadership’s need to control and putting their personal interests above kids. Parents don’t want retaliation so they comply.

Retaliation is a form of abuse, as defined by the Center for Safe Sports
Anonymous
Retaliation is hard to prove, a kid plays fewer minutes, maybe doesn’t start as regularly. It’s a “coaches decision”. And if you’re trying to prove retaliation then we’ve all already lost. The club can’t even honestly come out and say why they’re doing this.

The golf bros at it again.

2013 I White when 9-1 in first place in the NAL, precursor to MLS Next.

2014 I won fall EDP as well.

I don’t count wins though, just refuting the None.

Are you really talking about successful "colors" teams at BSC and touring that as success?? The teams with colors at BSC are glorified rec teams at best. Just to pay the bills. They aren't playing at top level. I said "dominating". Just winning the league doesn't mean dominating. And if Im not mistaken, there were some close games for the 2014s in their group play. Years ago BSC had teams that would not even come close to losing on age and many times not lose playing a year up. The point is, BSC has fallen WAY WAY off from that type of dominance and has teams that are decent but not anything substantially better than the competitive landscape.
