My family is coming to DC to visit my 6wk old baby. Friday morning they want to meet for brunch.
I am fairly new to the area and have not been so venturous in my pregnancy and now new motherhood. Any highly recommended brunch destinations that don't have 40 minute waits and are friendly to babies and small children? |
Friday morning isn't prime brunch time. You might want to try a place like the Original Pancake House in Bethesda? |
You can go anywhere you want with a 6 week old - you are holding the baby and the baby normally sleeps anyways in a carrier. I would not worry about it being kid friendly unless you are going with some toddlers (whole other ball game).
In DC - I love Peacock Cafe in Georgetown - great menu and great atmosphere. |
Agree that not a lot of places have "brunch" on Friday, but they will open around 11:00 am or 11:30 am for lunch. A great way to get ideas is to use opentable.com to see what restaurants have availability. Just put in the date/time/number of people, and then sort all of the responses by location so you can figure out what is by you that is available. It has links to the restaurant websites and menus as well. |
Leopold's in Georgetown - I'm pretty sure they're open that early weekdays, and there are usually kids there. |
Chef Geoff's has a great brunch on weekends - not sure if it's available on weekdays. |
The Diner in Adams Morgan has breakfast 24-7, so you could have brunch there. It's really busy for brunch on the weekends but would probably be fine on a Friday. |
Open City in Woodley Park...they serve breakfast all day long! |
Ted's Bulletin on 8th street in capitol hill serves breakfast all day. |
Had brunch at Logan Tavern on Sunday and there were tons of families. Food was good too. |
Bonaparte on Wisconsin in GTown is now open @ 8 a.m. Daily Grill is fine in a pinch if Leopolds in Cadys Alley is too busy (prb. wont be on a Fri. morning)
Baked and Wired and Dean and Deluca aren't really sit-down, just counter service. Bistro Francais opens @ 11 a.m. Farhenheit @ GTown Ritz is open for bfast/brunch. |
Guapos in Tenleytown
Busboys and Poets If you like southern/soul food, Torries at Wilson's (across from Howard U Hospital) is great. get biscuits. |
If you want a casual atmosphere, I adore Tryst in Adam's Morgan, although by midday they are often full of laptop toting singles so arrive reasonably early to get space for a group. They have a great menu (the George grilled cheese is terrific), lots of living room style seating arrangements and a few tables. If you get shut out, walk two doors down to the Diner (already recommended by a PP). Tryst has the same owners as OpenCity, another recommended spot. Want something fancier or more special? Try one of the famous DC hotels (Mayflower, whatever the Hotel Washington is called now with it's roof top restaurant, etc.). |
