My sister in law, based on her doctor's advice, is putting my nephew on a gluten free diet. Her doctor gave her wonderful resources but I'm wondering if anyone has any particular suggestions on cookbooks, Web sites, etc. that she can try for ideas. She does not live in our area so local places will not be relevant. Thank you!

I love the book "Cooking for Isaiah." It is a gluten-free/dairy-free recipe book by one of the editors for Rachel Ray Magazine. You can always add milk in place of rice milk, etc. in the recipes if your nephew doesn't need to be dairy-free as well. In the beginning of the book, she explains some easy conversions. The cookbook was written with recipes she made for her son who needed to be gluten-free/dairy-free. She has excellent recipes for breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner. They are all kid-friendly. It depends on how old your nephew is as to how relevant all of the recipes will be to him now, but it may be a good start. We LOVE the whole book in my house. The chocolate chip cookies, cinnamon toast waffles, fritos oven-baked chicken tenders, and on and on.

Also, the website www.glutenfreeregistry.com helps you search for restaurants that cater to gluten-free diners. It has been a great help, particularly when traveling.

Jules Gluten Free sells flour and some mixes that are GF. She also has LOTS of recipes using her products www.julesglutenfree.com

Many areas have celiac groups that have lists of grocery stores, restaurants, recipes for GF diets. Even if celiacs is not the issue, it may be worth searching for that.
