So sad for Wisconsin today

Anonymous
I was born and raised in northern Wisconsin. I'm so sad at the news today. Reading through public comments on the news is even more depressing - so many very very angry conservatives repeating sentiments along the line of "Finally you are being torn down to my level. I don't get health insurance at my job and you shouldn't either. I don't get (fill in the blank) from my employer so no one should."

Just sad.

I do believe this is the start of something very big. I think this moment is huge. I think our children are going to read about this event as a turning point in our national history, and it is not going to turn out the way Republicans think it will.

I wish I were still a resident there, so I could add my signature to some of the recall lists and be a part of it.

I hope this is a turning point!

I think its going to blow up in their faces.

what exactly are you concerned about?

the union members still have health care and a pension.

they still have their rights as civil servants (great deal of protection).

they still are a union.

I am not against unions, private or public, provided you are not forced to join one. I think they did great things for the labor movement in this country, and forced the labor laws that we have today. Once they met their goals, they tended to (like all such organizations) get fat and corrupt. personally I'd rather not have to pay the dues.

I am against collective bargaining for benefits with public unions, since the system is so deeply flawed.

In Montgomery County, County employees that are part of the eligible to be part of the bargaining unit MUST pay dues, no option.

50 years of civil rights wiped way in 30 minutes. That is what is so sad about Wisconsin.

But, the tragedy will be worth it, because the sleeping giant has been woken. Republicans just kissed their chance at 2012 goodbye.

Hope it was worth it!

pro union or not, what the republicans did in Wisconsin is really shady and will cost them big.

and they reap all the benefits, so they should pay.

Please explain your logic more. You are against the public unions in Wisconsin because you think the corruption among the teachers, police officers, and fire fighters lead to the budget crisis in the state? Explain please.

I'm sad, too, OP.

Unions need to go

Why do you think unions need to go? Do you fundamentally believe that employers will keep the best interests of their employees in mind when setting wages, benefits, health insurance, hours, and work place safety conditions? You do realize all the laws we have in place on these issues were largely won by unions, right? Are you angry because you have no say with your employer and you think others shouldn't have something you don't have? I really want to understand why you think they are bad.
