Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
|
We currently live in Loudon County and would like to relocate before our kids enter school.
My DH and I both work in D.C. I've heard that there are some neighborhoods near Mclean (that are less expensive) and still feed into Langley HS. If so, could you share the names of the neighborhoods, or zipcodes? Also, any suggestions re: areas in North Arlington to consider. A good school is our priority. Thanks |
| Budget? |
| Op here. Our budget is in the low 400s. We are looping for a SFH. |
| Are you looking to be along the orange line? You will not find a house in McLean or North Arlington for 400k (SFH or otherwise). You may be able to find a rambler that needs work in Vienna Woods in the mid-400s. You might also look in Pimmit Hills in Falls Church. |
| Pimmit Hills feeds into Marshall HS, I believe. |
Yep, and Vienna Woods feeds into Madison HS. You won't find any SFHs in that price range in McLean or Langley HS districts. |
With that budget, I'd recommend renting. If you are open to other school districts, look in the Woodson pyramid. There are a few homes in Little Run and Canterbury Woods ES boundaries that better fit your budget. |

don't be afraid to look in arlington or falls church city. You might get lucky and find a house in that price range.
We are looking in that price range, but we have basically resigned ourselves to staying in western fairfax. we're looking in the Herndon/Reston and Fairfax/Chantilly areas. I know we can't afford a SFH in any of the "top notch" HS districts, but I am not really worried about it. We will probably end up zoned to either Herndon or Chantilly HS, or possibly even South Lakes. For our budget, we can't expect to be in the ritzy part of town. I think the schools in Fairfax are all pretty darn good - the biggest difference is the wealth of the parents. |
We recently purchased a home in Canterbury Woods in the low $500,000...however, you can sometimes find an even smaller house that has not had much work done that are in the mid $400,000. |
| If you want to be closer to 66, 50 and the Vienna metro, you can probably find homes in that range in the Fairfax HS and Oakton HS pyramids. |

Yes, you might be able to find something in N. Arlington, but it would either be very small or very old. Most "decent" houses in N. Arlington are in the $600,000s.
Here is an example of a place in N. Arlington (22207) that is $400,000. Schools are fine, but house is small and old. http://www.redfin.com/VA/Arlington/2115-N-Edison-St-22207/home/11236189 And here is another in 22205: http://www.redfin.com/VA/Arlington/5648-5th-St-N-22205/home/11242681 |
PP here. I meant most "decent" houses START in the $600,000s (and that is still something older, but maybe with some renovations). |
| op here- budget is $550,000 |
|
One place to look might be in the part of Falls Church (22043 zip code) that feeds into either Haycock ES/Longfellow MS/McLean HS, or Shrevewood ES/Kilmer MS/Marshall HS. You can find some properties @$550K. Would likely be an older house with possibly some updates. You'd be fairly close to the West Falls Church metro, if that matters.
