Dream Dinners and Let's Dish

Anonymous
Dinner logistics are getting tough when we get home at 6:15/6:30 p.m. with two cranky, hungry children. We're thinking of trying out Let's Dish or Dream Dinners.

Do you like the food, is it healthy, what is the average preparation time?

We prefer the option where they pack it up for us and we just pick it up vs. going there and packing it up ourselves.

I ised to do Let's Dish a lot with a friend before they moved. We really liked it - lots of things my kids enjoyed that I never would have tried otherwise. I usually did the make it yourself and always found teh store clean and the items fresh.

food wasn't high enough quality and too much of it was processed (this was let's dish).

I wish I could go to one of those Mormon canning places, but alas, I don't know any Mormons well enough to be asked along...

I did Let's Dish a few times. It was a Godsend one month when I was really swamped but had a newborn and a toddler.

The meals were mostly a piece of protein in a bag, with some herbs, spices, veggies cut up on top and a sauce. It didn't seem overly processed to me. You still needed to make at least one side dish for each meal though -- the dinners were usually a protein and a grain or a protein and a veggie.

Each meal made 6 servings and you could split the order so you got two bags of 3 servings -- that was plenty for me, DH and 2 small kids. Often the kids would try the food but it was hit or miss if they'd like it. DH and I liked most of the meals. They tasted fresh to me. They usually took less than 30 minutes to cook but the real advantage was just psychological. You coudl wake up in the AM and think "What's for dinner" and just pull something delicious out of the freezer, thaw in the fridge, come home and not have to think. I don't mind waiting 30 minutes for something to cook as long as I don't have to chop and prep and think about it too.

If you are really busy, Let's Dish will have someone make up your meals and you just pick it up for an etxra fee. I did that one month and it was like having a private chef (on a budget).

If you get the 12 meal package and split each meal into two, that's 24 dinners. Add in pizza once a week and that's almost a full month of meals!

We tried Let's Dish and found most of the meals to be just okay. They made one really nice pasta dish. The rest of it I would definitely pass on. I won't do it again which is a bummer because the convenience factor was great.
