Chemical pregnancy

Anonymous
I think I've just had a chemical pregnancy - I tested positive after missing my period but a few days later I'm starting to bleed. I've already had 1 miscarriage and I'm 39. I know your eggs get crummy with age but does your uterus as well? I've never seen a fertility specialist mainly because with 1 child already I don't think I would put us all through the full treatment process... but on the other hand if there's something wrong with me that is preventing me from carrying these pregnancies I'd prefer to know rather than to go through the hell of believing I'm pregnant and then having it all disappear. Any advice or doctor recommendations (MD or DC) would be much appreciated.

Have you tested again?
I have had a chemical pregnancy and a healthy (so far) pregnancy with bleeding in week 4. According to what I have read, a chemical pregnancy does not decrease your chances of having a healthy pregnancy later.
You could start out with your OB and ask for some testing if this is a chemical. If they are unresponsive, you could seek the help of a reproductive endocrinologist.

Well, I was hoping that I might have jumped the gun but probably not. I saw just a touch of blood yesterday and freaked, and then it stopped so my hopes were back up. Now I'm bleeding for real - lightly, not as heavy as a period, but definitely more than spotting. Since I was only 5 weeks I assume I'll just get a full-blown period... of course half my brain is still trying to rationalize that this might not be over. All the books/websites say a little bleeding is not necessary disaster in early pregnancy... but how much is "a little"?

This is the 15:16. When I had bleeding during this pregnancy, it was like day one of my regular period. It lasted half the day and then went away. It also happened again a few days later, but didn't last as long. That was 6 weeks ago and all seems to be fine at this point. All tests and ultrasounds came back normal.

Have you taken another test?

When I had a chemical, my hcg was 2.5 12 hours after the bleeding started.
