What is National Integrated Health Associates? (NIHA) Are they 'real' doctors?

I am looking for a doctor that has a more holistic approach. Does insurance reimburse as out of network?

Some are MD's, some are not. Their bios are on the web site. You'd have to check with your insurance company - each one is different.

I can tell you that for me, any lab work that can be sent through Lab Corp is covered at 100%, and NIHA does send a lot through them. Also, my insurance covers some of the mail-away lab kits. Others, I pay for 100%, and they can be very expensive.

When we looked into it a few years ago there was at least one doctor who had lost his licence in another state (NY, I think). Some claimed it was a targetted attack on alternative medicine, but it still made me a little nervous. And I wondered, given location right at DC/MD line (but in DC) whether licensing in DC was more lenient.

When we actually used it, some was reasonable, but the doctor ordered so many tests -- too many for him to be able to absorb the results of, and then recommended a whole slew of stuff for my son to go on. Although I support alternative medicine, the approach seemd a little slipshod and disorganized, and ultimately we dropped.
